Many of us live our lives searching for clarity, purpose and direction, yet we often struggle to find it. This devotional takes you on a journey to pursue God’s plan for your life—exploring what questions to ask, how to gain insight and direction, and the truths uncovered in His Word that will ultimately lead you closer to Him.

The Rooted Life

Day 1

Scripture: Matthew 6:33

Welcome to Day One!

Many of us live our lives searching for clarity and direction, yet we often struggle to find it. The truth is, the only way to experience true fulfillment and satisfaction is by walking the unique path God has designed specifically for you. But figuring out how to do that can feel overwhelming. What questions should we ask? How do we uncover what will bring us the deepest satisfaction? And how can we discern what God wants for our lives, let alone pursue it? If you’ve ever felt uncertain, you’re not alone.

This devotional is a reflection of our journey to pursue God’s path for our lives—the questions we’ve asked, the revelations He’s shared, and the truths we’ve uncovered in His Word. We’ve discovered that the more we align our lives with His plans, the more we experience the fullness of joy and peace He promises.

As you journey through this devotional, we encourage you to begin each daily reading with these three steps:

  • Pause: Take a moment to slow down, quiet your thoughts, and center yourself with a deep breath.
  • Reflect: Think about how you currently approach discovering God’s plan for your life and where that has led you.
  • Seek: Invite the Holy Spirit to guide your devotional time. Ask Him to reveal the Father’s will and plans for your life.
Day 2

Scripture: Judges 6:11-23

Honoring God with our Questions

Did you know that the brain is made up of 100,000 miles of blood vessels—almost four times the distance around the world—and information can travel through it at speeds up to 350 miles per hour?

The intricate design of the brain highlights the incredible creativity and nature of our Creator. It is clear that God designed us to be deep thinkers, reflecting complexity and wonder.

You may be asking, what does this have to do with aligning my life to God’s plan? The answer is simple: Everything

God has gifted us with minds capable of reflection, imagination, creativity, and strategy. One of the most powerful ways we can fully embrace this gift is by inviting God into our thoughts, questions, and reflections. When we process with God, we invite His guidance, wisdom, and will into our lives, aligning our plans with those of the Master Creator.

Unfortunately, many of us skip over this practice for a few reasons:

  • We’re rushing through life – In our busy and fast-paced lives, we often miss the opportunity to pause and reflect.
  • Our pride deceives us – We convince ourselves that we already have all the answers and don’t need God’s guidance.
  • We misunderstand God – We mistakenly believe that our questions dishonor or challenge God.
  • We misdirect our questions – Rather than consulting with God about our lives, we often turn to others for answers.

Scripture teaches us that aligning our lives to God’s plan begins with seeking Him for guidance about his Will. We see this truth in the stories of Moses, Habakkuk, Gideon, Mary, and the disciples. When they brought their thoughts, questions, and concerns to God, He wasn’t offended. Instead, He welcomed their curiosity and concern, taking on the role of Shepherd providing grace, wisdom, and direction.

As we seek to align our lives to God’s plan, let’s embrace the opportunity to process with Him and trust His heart and will for our lives.

Reflection

Take a moment to consider: Do I make it a habit of processing my thoughts, questions, and concerns with God? Am I intentional about seeking His will for my life? If the answer is no, take time to reflect on why that might be.

Day 3

Scriptures: Philippians 4:4, 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, Ephesians 5:19-21

How Have I Seen God Move?

One of the most valuable practices we can cultivate in life is gratitude. God is constantly blessing us, yet we often overlook or completely miss it. Many of His blessings go unnoticed because we don’t take the time to pause, reflect, and prayerfully acknowledge His goodness in our lives. When we recall the ways God has met our needs in the past, we’re reminded of His strength and His ability to meet every future need according to His power. Aligning our lives with God’s plans starts by practicing gratitude and asking ourselves: How have I seen God move?

The Potential Pitfalls

Have you ever taken a test and gotten a near-perfect score, only to fixate over the few questions you got wrong instead of celebrating the ones you got right? That’s because it’s human nature to focus on flaws and imperfections, making it harder to see and appreciate the good.

Without a regular practice of gratitude, we risk overlooking God’s provision and, in turn, the ways our lives are already divinely aligning with His plans.

The Power to Transform

Gratitude is a form of praise that has the power to reshape our hearts, perspectives, and lives—even in the face of trials. The more we thank God, the more clearly we see how He is moving and guiding us.

Over time, gratitude strengthens our faith and trust, equipping us to take the next step toward what God has for us, even when the future feels uncertain.

The Pursuit to Honor

Gratitude is good stewardship. It honors God’s sovereignty and faithfulness while acknowledging that He is perfect and has a perfect plan for our lives. When the enemy tries to attack our thoughts and tempt us to doubt God’s plans, gratitude anchors us in truth–it reminds us that we serve a faithful God who has good plans for us and is committed to seeing us fulfill His purpose.

Reflection

Take time today to jot down and thank God for at least three ways you’ve seen Him move recently. What do these moments reveal about His plans for your life?

Day 4

Scriptures: James 1:2-4, Ephesians 3:16-17, Romans 5:3-4

How has God helped me grow?

We don’t talk enough about how difficult it is to grow. The process is rarely what we expect it to be. Growing in faith, often referred to as being sanctified, brings us face-to-face with challenging people, difficult circumstances, and perhaps most painfully, our own shortcomings.

In these moments, we have to trust God’s heart for us and His plans for our lives. Following gratitude, we can reflect on the ways He is maturing and preparing us in the present by asking: How has God helped me grow?

The Potential Pitfalls

When we fail to reflect on our own growth, it’s easy to become fixated on the transformation and progress of others, and this comparison often clouds our judgment about God’s plans for us. To gain a healthy perspective on our lives, we must reflect on the lessons God has taught us through our unique journey. When we fail to recognize how we’ve grown, we risk missing how God has been intentionally stretching and preparing us for His plans and purposes.

The Power to Transform

It’s no coincidence that the areas where we face the greatest challenges are often the same places where God desires to use us the most. Every challenge better equips us to fulfill His Will for our lives. Our transformation becomes our testimony–putting His glory on full display.

The Pursuit to Honor

True growth happens through God’s power, not our own. When we open our hands to the path He has set before us – with all of its highs and lows – we submit to His work of shaping us for His plans. As we surrender, we can more clearly see not only how God is preparing us, but how we’re right where He wants us to be.

Reflection

Reflect on both the small and significant ways you’ve grown. How has this growth revealed God’s unique plans for your life? During your prayer time, ask God to show you the areas where you still need to grow in order to be fully prepared for His plans.

Day 5

Scriptures: Philippians 2:13, 2 Corinthians 9:8, Acts 6:8

What has God graced me to do?

There are few things more incredible than witnessing someone operate in their extraordinary gifts—whether in athletics, the arts, or academics. As humans, we are naturally drawn to watching others excel in their talents. While gifts themselves are remarkable, because they are an extension of God’s grace, they reach their full potential only when partnered with Him. His grace, through our gifts, gives us the ability to go further and do more than we ever could on our own.

After practicing gratitude and recognizing our growth, aligning our lives with God’s plans requires us to acknowledge the areas where He has intentionally gifted us. We do this by asking: What has God graced me to do?

The Potential Pitfalls

When we are unclear about the areas where God’s grace flows in our lives, we run the risk of:

  • Overcommitting to the wrong things – We find ourselves pouring our time, energy, and efforts into tasks God hasn’t called us to.
  • Neglecting our God-given gifts – We miss the joy and fulfillment that come from operating in our gifts and instead, pursue worldly success.
  • Operating out of our own ability – We rely solely on our own knowledge and strength rather than God’s grace.
  • Comparing our gifts to others – We focus more on how God has gifted others than discovering how he has graced us.

This lack of clarity can lead to burnout, unfulfilled purpose, and misaligned priorities, moving us further from God’s plans.

The Power to Transform

If pursuing God’s plans for your life feels overwhelming, you’re not alone – and you’re not wrong. God often calls us to serve in ways that exceed our natural abilities. But when we gain clarity about what He has graced us to do, we find the confidence and courage to prioritize His will over our personal ambitions.

The Pursuit to Honor

Grace is where our gifts meet God’s favor, turning ordinary efforts into extraordinary outcomes. These areas where we naturally shine, experience unusual influence, or find favor with others without striving reveal more about His plans for us. When we identify God’s grace in our lives, it helps us embrace His purpose and reminds us to remain dependent on His power to accomplish His plans.

Reflection

Take a moment to make two lists – one with your natural gifts and the other with your most recent wins. Where do you see God’s grace? What does this reveal about God’s plans for your life?

Day 6

Scripture: Matthew 6:33

Review and Reflect

We invite you to spend Day 6 of this devotional intentionally slowing down. Take time to review and reflect on what God has revealed to you so far.

1. Review: Look back over the topics and scriptures we’ve shared. Notice what the Holy Spirit has revealed to you so far. What moments stood out to you? What truths have been highlighted in your heart? Prayerfully identify a few scriptures to meditate on.

2. Reflect: Consider the following questions:

  • Challenges: What beliefs or thought patterns have been challenged during this time? What do you need to surrender in order to fully align your life to God’s will?
  • Questions: What questions are stirring in your heart? What uncertainties are you carrying right now that you can bring to God?
  • Revelations: What new things has God revealed to you? How has your understanding of His will for your own life shifted through this devotional?

Resist the urge to rush today. Instead, create space for God to speak to your heart.

Day 7

Scripture: Proverbs 3:5-6

Closing

Thank you for taking this time to dive deeper into God’s Word with us. We pray that as you conclude this devotional, you experience fresh insight, clarity, and peace like never before.

And remember, aligning your life with God’s plan is an ongoing journey. Each day, we must continue seeking His will, surrendering to His plan, and choosing to journey with Him. This requires us to consistently pause, reflect, and process with Him, knowing that in doing so, we honor Him and invite Him to align our lives with His purpose. It’s a continual act of trust and surrender, but it’s through this that we experience the fullness of His peace and direction.

We want to leave you with three key reflections about gratitude, growth, and grace:

  • Gratitude: God is always moving — it’s us who need to slow down and notice the ways our lives are already divinely aligning with His plans.
  • Growth: The more we surrender and trust God, the more He can transform our trials into testimonies.
  • Grace: Grace is where our gifts meet God’s favor, giving us the ability to go further than we ever could on our own.

Be encouraged as you move forward, holding onto the truth that greater joy, peace, and promise await you as you continue aligning your life more deeply with God’s plan.
