BORN TO FLY

Day 1

Scripture: Isaiah 11:2

The Best Business Resource

When you read Isaiah 11:2, it says that the Spirit of the Lord will rest on Him. That “Him” is Jesus. It was then prophesied that the Spirit would be in Him (Jesus).

Now, over 2000 years later, we know what happened after Jesus went back to the Father:

That same Spirit was poured out over us!

Whether you are a freelancer, solopreneur, or working on your side hustle, you have the Holy Spirit in you, too! And He provides:

→ Wisdom

→ Understanding

→ Counsel

→ Might

→ Knowledge

→ Fear of the Lord

I don’t know about you, but that blows my mind. The Holy Spirit is seriously the best resource that’s ever been given to us, especially when you are in business for yourself.

With access to such treasure, our only option is to be incredible solopreneurs with impact. Every day, we get the opportunity to tap into that Spirit and use it for the benefit of others.

Now, my question is: are you seeking the Holy Spirit to tap into this resource?

Blessings,
Jane (Founder of Born to Fly)

Today’s Prayer

Dear Jesus,

What a blessing that You gave us Your Spirit so that we can get guidance as we navigate through life and business. Today, I especially want to seek the Holy Spirit. I want to invite Him into my life and ask for wisdom, understanding, counsel, might, knowledge, and fear of the Lord while building my business. I want to be filled with the same love and power as You, Jesus, so that I can be a light to others, not just with my work, but in every facet of my life.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen

Day 2

Scripture: Hebrews 12:2

Don’t Hide Who You Are

Why do we put so much emphasis on being liked when Jesus never did?

The Bible tells us that Jesus wasn’t always liked. He had to go through shame and rejection because of:

– Who He was
– What He stood for
– What He said and did

Despite being liked or disliked, Jesus did not hide who He was.

I often have to remind myself that it doesn’t matter if people think I’m weird for believing in Jesus or having a different opinion—a rather unpopular opinion—about some issues.

I have to be me: a daughter of the Most High King.

Let’s apply that to business.

The way you handle your business is up to you.

The world can think their part about it, but YOU are the one managing the tasks, running the show, and assigning a brand and set of values to your business.

Do you agree with your way of doing business?
Can you live out who you are in your business?

You should.

You are a unique selling point

Don’t hide who you are because of fear of other people’s thoughts—you can’t work with everyone anyways. Instead, embrace the person God destined you to be. And run your business like it.

Blessings,
Jane

Today’s Prayer

Dear God,

You have known me from the beginning. You knitted me together in my mother’s womb and made me in Your image. Now, I would like to reflect that in my business. Please, Lord, show me what needs improvement. Help me to be an example, and diminish any fear or shame I have about being unliked.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen

Day 3

Scriptures: Mark 5:34, 1 John 4:18, Matthew 6:26, 1 Peter 5:6-7

Letting Go of Control

Jesus healed a woman who had been bleeding for over 12 years. It was her faith that made her believe Jesus was the One who could heal her. Not “weighing the odds.”

What do I mean by that?

I personally notice sometimes that it’s my rational thinking and not my faith that takes over my thoughts. It’s as if my brain says, “Yes, God can do it, but here are some other options if He doesn’t come through…”

But wait a minute! That’s not faith.
That’s an attempt to be in control.

There are three things our human nature wants and needs:
1. Security (physically, financially, emotionally)
2. Connection (relationships, feeling valued, and acceptance)
3. Control (empowerment, choices, and options)

And when any one of these is threatened, we feel fear and anxiety.

Aha!

Like me, you might have a tendency to take control. I mean, what solopreneur wouldn’t? However, the good news is we don’t have to have control.

God already provided control, security (Jesus’ sacrifice), and connection (the Holy Spirit) in us! God is always in control. He will provide whatever is necessary.

I know that.

You know that.

But sometimes knowing isn’t the same as believing, and giving up control causes a lot of fear. Then I remember that this is God’s promise. God loves us. And in love, there is no place for fear.

Blessings,
Jane

Today’s Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Sometimes it’s hard to believe that You care for me and my activities. But Your word is true, and that is my foundation. So, I stand in faith and believe that You are my shield and my shepherd and that You care about my business because You are in control. I surrender it all to You and follow where You lead.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen

Day 4

Scriptures: 2 Timothy 1:7, Proverbs 3:6, Colossians 3:23

Making Decisions While God Seems Silent

I can overthink a lot. I can pray about minor things and then doubt them, which prevents me from moving forward, all the while using the excuse that I’m seeking guidance from God.

Isn’t that stalling ;)?

For those prayers, sometimes the answers never come.

Why?

Because I think God has given us a sound mind. The fact that I doubt my own capability to make a decision—that I’m too afraid to move on—basically says that I do not trust what God has put in me, or trust God in general.

What is bent, He can make straight.
If I drift away, He knows how to bring me back.
He promises He is in control.
He provides.

For God to provide, you actually have to take steps. You can’t just sit back and wait until He makes things happen (or for Him to answer concerning a small decision you have to make). You have to do the work. Not just the thinking.

So, work with all your heart as working for the Lord (Colossians 3:23), and give Him the glory in all the things you do.

Dare to take steps.
If you never move, there’s no path to straighten.
So go, and have faith.
Choose!

Blessings,
Jane

Today’s Prayer

God,

I know You hear my prayers and I know You will answer them, but Your timing or answer might not be what I expect. Forgive me for taking the reins too often, and help me to seek You in all I do. Empower me to make decisions and strengthen my belief that You care about my life and business.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen

Day 5

Scriptures: 1 Timothy 1:16, Jeremiah 2:5

Busyness is an idol

What do you feel when you have to wait for a traffic light when there’s no one on the road?

How does it affect you that your business isn’t yet where you want it to be?

Such things can annoy me. I’m not the most patient person, but I’m working on it ;).

Where does this impatience come from?

Our need for fast-paced development or growth for our business.
Our expectation that we should get an email reply the same day we hit send.

We see it everywhere in the world. Everything needs to move fast with results on the radar.

The enjoyment of the journey in between seems lost.
Only a focus on achievement is left, which results in fulfilling the busier lives that we seem to crave. The busier, the better, or else you’re not doing enough.

“Sometimes busyness can be a means of hiding our negligence.” I think this quote from Lecrae hits the nail on the head. I have the tendency to always want to do more, to optimize every available second that I have. Sometimes this habit pulls me away from the important things and activities in life. Am I falling for the trap? Keeping busy for the sake of being busy?

I know where the need to stay busy comes from. It’s an idol.

Many people, especially entrepreneurs, find meaning in it. They think it’s necessary to be busy in order to achieve something; otherwise, you’re not successful. It’s basically a form of worship.

Well, what does God say?

Does He agree, or is this a belief—an idol—from the world that further ignites our impatience?

Blessings,
Jane

Today’s Prayer

Dear Father,

I know there is nothing wrong with working hard for Your Kingdom, and I want to thank You for the place I have in doing so. But the world’s view on busyness is affecting the way I do my work. It’s taking too much control. Father, will You point out the idols in my life and help me to get rid of them so I can focus on what is worthy and good?

In Jesus’ name,

Amen
