Day 1

Scriptures: Galatians 5:1, Matthew 11:28-30, John 8:34-36

Finding Freedom in Christ 

Freedom. It’s a word that stirs something deep within us. We long for it, chase after it, fight for it, and sometimes even die for it. But what does true freedom really look like? In Galatians 5:1, we discover that Christ has already set us free. This isn’t a freedom we have to earn or achieve – it’s a gift He’s already given us. 

Yet sometimes, we find ourselves still carrying burdens we were never meant to bear. Like a bird that’s been set free but remains perched in its cage, we can stay trapped by familiar patterns, old habits, and persistent fears. Jesus extends a gentle invitation in Matthew 11:28: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” 

What Freedom Looks Like:

  • Resting in His presence (Psalms 46:10) 
  • Trusting His fight (Exodus 14:14) 
  • Finding peace in the storms (Mark 4:35-41) 
  • Walking in truth (John 8:32) 

True freedom isn’t about doing whatever we want – it’s about becoming who we were created to be. When we understand this truth, we begin to see that freedom isn’t the absence of something (like rules or restrictions), but the presence of Someone. It’s found in knowing Christ and allowing His truth to transform our lives. 

Take a moment to identify one burden you’re carrying that you need to release to Jesus. It might be worry about the future, guilt from the past, or a current struggle. Pray specifically about letting go and accepting the freedom Christ offers. 

Prayer: Lord, thank You for the freedom You’ve already given me through Christ. Help me to fully embrace this gift and to stand firm in it. Show me the areas where I’m still carrying unnecessary burdens, and give me the courage to lay them at Your feet. Teach me to rest in Your presence and trust in Your truth. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Day 2

Scriptures: Philippians 4:6-8, Isaiah 26:3

Freedom is a Choice 

Freedom in Christ isn’t passive – it’s an active choice we make each day. Just as the Israelites had to physically walk out of Egypt, we too must choose to walk in the freedom Christ has already secured for us. This journey often begins in our minds, where we face the daily choice between anxiety and peace, worry and trust. 

When anxiety threatens to overwhelm us, God’s Word provides a clear pathway to peace through Philippians 4:6-8. Let’s break it down: 

Philippians 4:6 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” 

Step 1 – Pray. Start with thanksgiving, it’s important we remember everything we already have, everything He’s already done, everything He already is. That’s where gratitude comes from, and when you remember what He has already done, you can trust Him when you are asking for all that He can do. Prayer brings you into the presence of the One who gives you the peace that transcends all understanding. (Philippians 4:7) 

Philippians 4:8 “Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” 

Step 2 – You have to choose what to think about. This verse instructs us to think about whatever is true, noble, right, pure, and lovely… not what could be, not what might be, or what might never happen. He is telling us step-by-step in His word how to be anxious for nothing. 

Every day presents us with choices: 

  • Who do I serve? God or myself? 
  • What will I think about? Worries or things above? 
  • How will I live? In relationship with Jesus, living from the Spirit or from my flesh? “Surrendered or trying to control? Forgiving or holding unforgiveness, bitterness, and anger? 

In Isaiah 26:3, God promises Shalom to those who trust in Him. Shalom is Perfect Peace. What is perfect peace? It is nothing missing, nothing broken.

What do you choose?

Prayer: Father, thank You for the freedom to choose. Help me to consistently choose Your way over my own. When anxiety creeps in, remind me to turn to You in prayer and fix my thoughts on what is true. Give me the courage to walk in the freedom You’ve provided. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Day 3

Scriptures: 2 Corinthians 10:5, Romans 12:2

Truth Over Emotions

Have you ever noticed how our feelings can sometimes lead us astray? In a world that constantly tells us to “follow our heart” and “live our truth,” God’s Word offers us something far more reliable – His unchanging truth. Freedom isn’t found in following our emotions; it’s discovered when we align our hearts with God’s Word.

The apostle Paul reminds us to “take every thought captive to make it obedient to Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:5). This means that when our emotions tell us one thing, we can choose to stand on God’s truth instead. Consider these powerful contrasts:

  • When anxiety whispers “be afraid,” God’s Word declares “be anxious for nothing” (Philippians 4:6)
  • When loneliness suggests “you’re alone,” His truth reminds us “I will never leave you nor forsake you” (Deuteronomy 31:6)
  • When shame says “you’re unworthy,” His love proclaims “you are bought with a price” (1 Corinthians 7:22-23)
  • When despair claims “you’re trapped,” Jesus announces “I have come to set the captives free” (Luke 4:18)

This journey to freedom requires us to consistently choose God’s truth over our feelings. It’s not about suppressing our emotions – they’re real and valid – but about anchoring them in something more reliable: God’s unchanging Word.

Prayer: Father, thank You for Your Word that stands firm regardless of how I feel. Help me to anchor my emotions in Your truth. When my feelings threaten to overwhelm me, remind me of Your promises. Teach me to take every thought captive and align it with Your Word. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Day 4

Scriptures: Exodus 34:6-7, Psalms 145:8-9, James 1:17

The Character of God

When we truly understand who God is, it transforms how we live. His character isn’t just a list of attributes – it’s the foundation of our freedom. Just as knowing a close friend’s character helps us trust them more deeply, knowing God’s character allows us to rest securely in His love and promises.

In Exodus 34:6-7, God reveals Himself to Moses as “compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.” This wasn’t just true for Moses – it’s who God is, yesterday, today, and forever. When we struggle with anxiety, doubt, or fear, we can anchor ourselves in these unchanging truths about who God is:

  • He is a loving Father who cares deeply for His children (1 John 3:1)
  • He is faithful, even when we are not (2 Timothy 2:13)
  • He is unchanging – His character remains constant (Hebrews 13:8)
  • He is sovereign, working all things for our good (Romans 8:28)

Think about the Israelites’ journey through the wilderness. God demonstrated His character consistently:

  • His provision – giving them manna daily
  • His patience – keeping His promises despite the 40 year journey to the promised land
  • His presence – guiding them with a pillar of cloud by day and fire by night
  • His protection – defending them from their enemies

To grow in freedom, choose one attribute of God that you need to trust in right now. Maybe it’s His faithfulness during uncertainty, His patience when you feel like you keep failing, or His love when you feel unlovable. Throughout the day, remind yourself of this truth about who God is.

Prayer: Father, thank You for revealing Your character to us through Your Word and through our experiences with You. Help me to truly know You, not just know about You. When circumstances tempt me to doubt, anchor me in the truth of who You are. Let Your unchanging character be the foundation of my freedom. In Jesus’ name, amen.
