Sometimes, we have to go through circumstances that we don’t understand. Knowing that all things work together for our good encourages us and gives us hope for the future. The goal of this reading plan about Romans 8:28 is to engrave this truth into your heart: God causes everything to work together for your good!

Day 1
Scriptures: Romans 8:18-30, Job 19:23-29, John 10:7-10, Romans 16:17-20, Revelation 1:8
Your situation is temporary…!
Here is a remarkable promise: “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.” (Romans 8:28)
You may know that you’re loved by God, but are you persuaded? Between the head and the heart, God desires to do His work in you…!
““But as for me, I know that my Redeemer lives…” (see Job 19:25), Job said when he was tested and tried on all sides. Illness, grief, pain, suffering, spiritual attacks…and to top it all off, his wife was no help when, in her depression, she counseled him to “curse God and die.”
Job was encouraged neither by his circumstances nor his loved ones. And even his friends reproached him saying that if all of this had happened to him, it was surely because he had sinned against God…
But Job knew! He knew that his Savior lives and would rise up and take a stand for him. He knew that God would silence the enemy of his soul, the enemy of his family, the enemy of his health, the enemy that seeks only to steal, kill, and destroy. (see John 10:10)
I encourage you to hold firmly to this promise: “The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet.” (see Romans 16:20) Have confidence! Your situation is temporary. God has already foreseen a way out.
You know in Whom you have believed: the all-powerful God, the Creator of the universe, the Lord of Hosts, the Good Shepherd, the Alpha and Omega…also known as the Lord God, the One Who is, Who was, and Who is to come, the Almighty. (see Revelation 1:8)
So be persuaded as well that you’re in His hand and that in Him, all things work together for your good!

Day 2
Scriptures: Romans 8:28, Jeremiah 29:11, Hebrews 2:8, Psalms 95:4, Exodus 33:22, Matthew 28:20, John 14:18, Joshua 5:14
Be at peace!
In the face of a promise that’s slow to be fulfilled, our current circumstances may seem out of step with the divine plan. But even when things seem to go wrong, God can and will turn them around. He is in charge!
“And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.” (Romans 8:28)
Here is what I believe the Lord wants to communicate to you today…
“My child, I know the plans I have for you. They are plans for good and not for disaster. I give you a future and a hope (see Jeremiah 29:11). Sometimes it’s difficult for you to understand what’s happening to you, but know this…all things work together for your good. Because all things are subject to Me (see Hebrews 2:8). The times are in My hand. And you are also in My hand (see Psalm 95:4). I am the Rock of Ages (see Isaiah 26:4), and I protect you in the midst of My presence (see Exodus 33:22).
I know that you love Me. I love you too. I loved you before the foundation of the world. I demonstrated My love to you by giving My life on the cross for you. And I will always love you. You are never alone. I am with you until the end of the age (see Matthew 28:20). I haven’t left you an orphan (see John 14:18). My Holy Spirit lives in you and leads you one day after another. Expect to see Me act in your life in a surprising way. Prepare to see your situation suddenly turn around because I am able to change the bad into good.
Trust Me. I cause everything to work together for your good. Even when things seem to turn the wrong direction, I can and will turn them around. My plan for your life is kind and full of blessings. And remember that the calling I placed on your life is irrevocable! Be at peace! I’m coming even now! (see Joshua 5:14)”
I invite you to take a special time today to meditate on the verse of the week: “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.” (Romans 8:28)
Be blessed!

Day 3
Scriptures: Romans 8:28, Mark 4:35-41
Jesus is with you!
All things, absolutely all, work together for your good when you love God. Your medical report works together for your good. Your family life works together for your good. Even your professional difficulties can work together for your good, by the grace of God.
In the midst of your greatest sufferings, God remains the shepherd of your life. He doesn’t create misfortune and hardship. But He wants and knows how to turn it to your advantage! His love will not leave you in difficulty. He will transform difficulty into an occasion to surprise you by His grace!
“And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.” (Romans 8:28)
One day, the disciples were crossing the Sea of Galilee while Jesus was sleeping in the boat. All of a sudden, a great storm came upon them. The disciples, though they were fishermen and used to navigation, panicked and woke Jesus up: “Teacher, don’t you care that we’re going to drown?”
“When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and said to the waves, ‘Silence! Be still!’ Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm.” (see Mark 4:38-39)
Jesus was definitely there..
Jesus is there, close to you, with you, and for you. He can command your storm to cease. He can calm the violent elements with a word. He is your defender.
“The disciples were absolutely terrified. “Who is this man?” they asked each other. “Even the wind and waves obey him!”” (see Mark 4:41)
Know that everything obeys Him! All things are subject to Him, and His faithfulness endures for you from generation to generation.
Let’s take a moment to pray: “Lord Jesus, what a joy it is to know You! Thank You for Your Word that builds me up, makes me grow, upholds me. Your Word is marvelous; it’s truly my support at all times. Again today, be my defender, my hero, and may all things work together for my good, as it is written in Your Word. In Your name, amen.”

Day 4
Scriptures: Romans 8:28, Luke 18:24-30, Genesis 50:15-21
God changes the evil into good!
God doesn’t rest when it comes to you and your growth! He puts everything into place to help you grow, thrive, and experience transformation.
Let’s continue today with this verse: “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.” (Romans 8:28)
The words “work together” come from the Greek word “sunergeo,” which can also be translated, “cooperate with,” “collaborate,” “help in the work.”
The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit work together for your good!
Joseph, whose story we can find in the book of Genesis, is a good example of this divine collaboration for the good of those who love God. Joseph had received God-given dreams for his life, but his jealous brothers wanted to do away with him. They sold him to an Ishmaelite caravan that in turn sold him as a slave in Egypt. Later, Joseph found himself in prison for years. Does that seem to work together for his good? On the surface, no, but in reality…yes. One day, he said to his brothers, who had come to ask for his help, “You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people.” (see Genesis 50:20)
Joseph went from sitting in a prison cell to becoming Pharaoh’s second-in-command in Egypt!
The Bible encourages us to trust in the Lord at all times: …“What is impossible for people is possible with God.” (Luke 18:27)
Yes, God is working for your good! Only God has the power to change what was meant for evil into good.
When something unexpected happens to you, take a position of faith and confess: I know that everything is working together for my good! Don’t be afraid, only believe that the Lord is causing all things to work together for your good.

Day 5
Scriptures: Romans 8:28, Song of Songs 6:1-3, Psalms 42:1-11, Psalms 63, Hebrews 6:12
Love God with all your strength!
God promises that He’ll take care of us entirely, totally, perfectly: that’s His part. For this promise to be accomplished, we must also do our part: love God.
In His great love, God doesn’t stop being good to those who don’t love Him. However, when people love Him, He’s enabled to go even further in His love!
“And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.” (Romans 8:28)
Loving God fully (not only halfway, according to the mood you might be in) is part of one of the two greatest commandments. Only, when an adverse wind blows in our lives, loving God with such intensity may seem impossible to us or beyond our abilities.
So, what does this truly mean, to love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength?
- Loving God with all your heart is loving Him with honesty, like someone loves a spouse: wholeheartedly. Even when we don’t understand all of His ways, we can love Him with a heart that says, “Yes, I will follow You, and I will trust You.” Even when we feel distraught, lost at sea, we can love Him by saying, “I am my beloved’s, And my beloved is mine. He feeds his flock among the lilies.” (see the Song of Solomon 6:3)
- Loving God with all your soul is loving Him by longing to be in His presence, be attached to Him. The Lord is the only One who can satisfy our souls completely: “I thirst for God, the living God. When can I go and stand before him?” (see Psalm 42:2)
- Loving God with all your mind is loving Him by turning our thoughts to Him. When our minds are filled with all sorts of guilty or negative thoughts, God gives us the strength to redirect them to Him and His kindness: “I lie awake thinking of you, meditating on you through the night.” (see Psalm 63:6)
- Loving God with all your strength is also loving Him with perseverance. When fatigue creeps into our daily lives, when we become weary in our love, God comes to remind us that He alone loves us with a relentless love.
God will take care of everything for you. All you have to do (and can do) is love Him fully and entirely. “Then you will not become spiritually dull and indifferent. Instead, you will follow the example of those who are going to inherit God’s promises because of their faith and endurance.” (see Hebrews 6:12) God knows your weaknesses and failures, but the only thing that really matters to Him is that you remain close to Him!

Day 6
Scriptures: Romans 8:28, Isaiah 42:5-9, Romans 11:29-32, Isaiah 45:3, Isaiah 43:1-2
There is a calling on your life!
In addition to taking care of you, God is calling you to great things for Him and making you a participant of His glory! If you happen to forget His calling on your life, God will not cease to remind you of it:
“And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.” (Romans 8:28)
When I was a young Christian, in a very specific moment, the Lord caused me to realize what He was calling me to: “I, the Lord, have called you to demonstrate my righteousness. I will take you by the hand and guard you, and I will give you to my people, Israel, as a symbol of my covenant with them. And you will be a light to guide the nations.” (see Isaiah 42:6)
Shortly afterwards, when I was doubting His calling on my life, the Lord reminded me of this verse: “For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.” (Romans 11:29)
The divine calling on my life and on yours is irrevocable! Yes, God has called you! To salvation, to repentance, to His love, to His life, to a destiny, to eternity. He has called you to be part of His family, the family of God…and every day, He is calling you to Him.
Here are two promises from the Bible to meditate on from God, who calls you by your name:
- “And I will give you treasures hidden in the darkness—secret riches. I will do this so you may know that I am the Lord, the God of Israel, the one who calls you by name.” (Isaiah 45:3)
- “But now, O Jacob, listen to the Lord who created you. O Israel, the one who formed you says, “Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are mine. When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.” (Isaiah 43:1-2)
God is calling you, too, to serve Him. He put a gifting in you. He has a plan for your life. He has given you talents that He is calling you to develop for His glory!

Day 7
Scriptures: Romans 8:28, Ephesians 3:11-12
God’s purpose is magnificent!
We’ve reached the end of our week to anchor within us the promise that all things work together for our good. My prayer is that, during these 7 days, your heart has been strengthened in the love of the Father.
God has a purpose for your life. He has a goal. What He wants to do with your life is an important question to ask yourself and Him!
“And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.” (Romans 8:28)
It’s very interesting to note that the Greek word for “purpose,” prothesis, is also the word used when the Bible mentions the bread of the Presence (showbread). These loaves served to represent the twelve tribes of Israel positioned before the Almighty.
Today, by Jesus’ sacrifice, who is the living bread from heaven, God positions you forward. Jesus grants you the favor and blessing of God. He proposes your advancement, your success, your blessing to the Father, as the bread did for the tribes of Israel. The bread proposes God’s blessing on His people.
Believe that you’re called according to His purpose. His eternal purpose. But also His purpose here on Earth, which is to guide you, comfort you, lead you, and use your life “according to the eternal purpose which He accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord, in whom we have boldness and access with confidence through faith in Him.” (see Ephesians 3:11-12)
God’s plan for you is good! Like an artist, He has drawn out the plan for your destiny in advance, and His work is magnificent!
