In Southport, North Carolina, a nighttime shooting left three people dead and at least eight more injured, city officials confirmed Saturday.
Authorities say the incident began around 9:30 p.m. when gunfire rang out at the American Fish Company, a waterfront bar along the Southport Yacht Basin. A boat reportedly pulled up, paused near the dock, and opened fire on patrons before speeding away up the Intracoastal Waterway toward Oak Island.
Shortly after 10 p.m., the U.S. Coast Guard spotted someone matching the suspect’s description loading a vessel at a public boat ramp in Oak Island. That person was detained and taken into custody by Oak Island police; they are expected to be transferred to Southport authorities for questioning, with support from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.
Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including Southport Police, the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office, the SBI, the ATF, and local fire and rescue units.
Officials have not yet released the suspect’s identity or formally announced the charges, and investigations remain ongoing.
This is a developing story, and further details are expected to emerge.
