In North Codorus Township, York County, Pennsylvania, five law enforcement officers were shot on Wednesday while attempting to serve an arrest warrant. Three officers died from their wounds, and two others were critically injured but in stable condition. Authorities say the suspect, 24‑year‑old Matthew James Ruth, was fatally shot by police during the confrontation.

The warrant was related to allegations of stalking, prowling at night, trespassing, and loitering by Ruth. He was said to have been accused of repeatedly harassing his ex‑girlfriend.

The officers who died are Det. Sgt. Cody Becker (39, 16 years of service), Det. Mark Baker (53, 21 years) and Det. Isaiah Emenheiser (43, 20 years). The two survivors are being treated at WellSpan York Hospital.

The shooting is being viewed as “domestic‑related,” according to officials. The incident has triggered a large‑scale investigation involving multiple agencies, including state police and the district attorney. There is no indication of an ongoing threat to the public.

Communities in the area have responded with shock. Vigils have been planned, and local, state, and national officials have expressed sorrow and support for the officers’ families.
