President Donald Trump’s former ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, reportedly held a covert meeting this past July with Jonathan Pollard — the notorious former U.S. intelligence analyst who passed classified American information to Israel and spent three decades in federal prison for espionage.

According to reporting by the New York Times, the meeting took place inside the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem and was deliberately omitted from Huckabee’s public schedule. The encounter, which went undisclosed until now, occurred during Huckabee’s time in Israel this summer.

Pollard acknowledged that the meeting had indeed taken place, telling the Times that it was cordial and wide-ranging. He described it as “a friendly meeting” and said that “a lot of things came up in conversation,” suggesting that the discussion touched on multiple topics. During his interview, Pollard also offered sharp criticism of former President Trump, describing him as “a madman who has literally sold us down the drain, for Saudi gold.”

David Milstein, a senior adviser to Huckabee and the stepson of Fox News personality Mark Levin, was reportedly present at the meeting as well.

Three unnamed officials familiar with diplomatic and intelligence operations told the Times that the clandestine sit-down raised serious concerns among U.S. intelligence personnel, in particular the CIA station chief based in Israel. According to the report, the White House had no prior knowledge of the meeting and learned about it only after it had already happened. A White House official and two individuals briefed on the situation said senior administration members were “alarmed” once they became aware that Huckabee had met privately with Pollard.

Pollard’s name remains one of the most controversial in modern American intelligence history. Convicted in 1987, he was sentenced to life after investigators uncovered that he had been funneling highly sensitive U.S. intelligence — including the identities of thousands of American intelligence assets — to Israel. He served 30 years before being released on parole in 2015.

After restrictions on his travel were lifted, Pollard moved to Israel in 2020. He traveled aboard a private jet owned by casino magnate Sheldon Adelson, a major Trump donor. Upon his arrival in Tel Aviv, Pollard received a warm public welcome from then–Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

In early 2021, Trump issued a pardon to Aviem Sella, the Israeli operative who first recruited Pollard to spy on the United States, deepening an already controversial chapter in U.S.-Israel intelligence relations.
