Antifa Tried to Incite Violence Between Black and Jewish Neighbors – Watch How Their Plan Backfired

We can file this one under “We Love to See It.”

Antifa agitators made an appearance in a Crown Heights street corner in Brooklyn—standing out in masks and black, handing out fliers, and pushing antisemitic narratives in the midst of a solemn commemoration. Their goal? To provoke Black residents during the memorial for Gavin Cato—whose tragic death in 1991 sparked one of the most painful intercommunity crises Crown Heights has ever seen—but their efforts were met with something entirely different.

Rather than succumbing to provocation, Black residents and Jewish neighbors formed a protective circle around each other, refusing to let the masked provocateurs either incite violence or drive wedges between them. When Antifa tried to stoke division, the crowd bristled with direct resistance—shouting messages like “scram,” or bluntly, “f*ck Antifa!” and telling them to skedaddle. Simply put, the community rejected the attempt to revive ancient wounds.

The backdrop to all this—a heartbreaking flashback to 1991. That summer, a car in a Lubavitcher motorcade accidentally killed 7-year-old Gavin Cato after running a red light. Rumors flew when a private ambulance whisked away the driver and some Jewish passengers first, while emergency crews were delayed in helping the injured Black child. In the ensuing three days, riots exploded. Jewish homes were targeted, stores looted, and one Jewish man was killed. High-profile figures such as Al Sharpton joined the unrest, fanning flames that led to injuries, arrests, and deep divisions in the neighborhood.

This time, Antifa clearly wanted to revive that chaos—waiting for the annual vigil anniversary to stir unrest all over again. But instead of chaos, what happened was community solidarity. Crowds didn’t pounce on the Jewish neighbors—they shielded them; instead of fighting with each other, both communities stood shoulder to shoulder, confronting Antifa with unity and rejecting what they were trying to ignite.

While this group, Crown Heights Bites Back, has attempted to use the anniversary for agitprop—labeling Chabad as “zionist white supremacists” or accusing them of murdering Cato—the residents exposed the sleight of hand with their defiant togetherness.

This incident showcases exactly what happens when local Black and Jewish neighbors refuse to be manipulated by outside agitators. And thank goodness they didn’t get what they wanted.
