President Trump has revealed that Attorney General Pam Bondi is preparing to file a lawsuit against GovPlanet, the company responsible for auctioning off surplus materials originally purchased for the border wall during his first term. The suit alleges improper handling and unauthorized commercial distribution of government-procured materials, raising concerns about accountability and oversight in the management of infrastructure assets under the current administration.
These materials were reportedly sold off for bargain prices—sometimes as low as a few dollars—through the GovPlanet online auction platform after construction stalled due to executive orders issued by President Biden. Trump criticized the sales as reckless, claiming the administration effectively “stole the wall from us,” undermining an expensive national security project. He argued that if not for the sale, the wall could have been completed swiftly.
Records indicate the materials—comprising steel panels and concrete components worth hundreds of millions of dollars—were initially purchased and stored but remained unused following changes in policy. Texas officials had already secured a court order in late 2024 to halt further disposal of these materials.
In response to recent developments, GovPlanet has stated it reached an agreement with the Trump administration’s border office to return the surplus materials “at cost,” aiming to preserve taxpayer investments and expedite their transfer for renewed border protection efforts.
