Mariah Carey is once again making it clear: she doesn’t believe in the concept of time.
In a recent interview with Capital FM shared on June 16, the music icon reaffirmed her long-standing rejection of time as a real or relevant construct. Carey, who famously says she doesn’t have “birthdays” but “anniversaries,” explained, “That is true,” when asked if she ignores the passage of time. “I just don’t believe in it… No, no, just time. Let it go.”
This belief also affects how she manages her schedule. When asked how she makes appointments without acknowledging time, Carey responded, “Yeah, I would have somebody call you and figure it out.”
Her views on time aren’t new. In a throwback interview she reposted in 2023, a younger Carey explained, “I don’t have birthdays… I decided to do that. And I’ve noticed that people who decide not to have birthdays, they just don’t have them.”
Still, Carey does acknowledge the “anniversary” of her existence each March 27. This year, she celebrated by posting a jet ski photo on Instagram, thanking her fans — the “lambily” — for their support.
The interview follows the release of her new single, “Type Dangerous,” her first official release since 2018. The song debuted at No. 95 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart dated June 21, 2025, becoming her 50th entry — not that Carey, who doesn’t recognize dates, would mark the milestone with a calendar.
