Tyler Robinson, 22, has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Authorities say that after a manhunt lasting about 33 hours, Robinson was taken into custody Thursday night.

Investigators believe Robinson acted alone, firing a single fatal shot from the rooftop of a building approximately 200 yards from where Kirk was speaking at Utah Valley University.  The arrest came after a tip—Robinson allegedly confessed or implied his involvement to a family member, who then alerted the authorities. Also, Robinson’s roommate reportedly shared Discord messages that referenced obtaining a rifle from a drop‑point.

Robinson faces serious charges including aggravated murder, discharge of a firearm causing serious injury, and obstruction of justice. He is being held without bail in Utah and formal charges are expected early next week.

There is significant momentum toward pursuing the death penalty. State officials have made it clear they intend to seek capital punishment if Robinson is convicted. Given Utah law, this could include execution by firing squad, one of the methods the state allows in certain capital cases.
