Authorities in Utah have released new surveillance footage of a person of interest in the fatal shooting of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk. The video shows the suspect climbing down from a rooftop on the Utah Valley University campus—allegedly the location from which the fatal shot was fired—and then walking away toward nearby woods.
Appearing at a joint state and federal news conference Thursday evening, Utah Gov. Spencer Cox urged the public for help identifying this individual. “We cannot do our job without the public’s help right now,” he said.
Officials say they have already collected multiple forms of physical evidence. These include shoe prints, a palm print, and technical leads from the footage. The person of interest is believed to be college‑aged, wore distinct clothing—dark shirt with an American flag design, Converse‑style sneakers, carrying a black backpack, baseball cap and sunglasses in some frames.
A bolt‑action rifle was recovered in a wooded area close to the scene, matching what officials believe to be the shooter’s path of escape.
So far, more than 7,000 tips have been submitted to law enforcement, and nearly 200 interviews have been conducted. Authorities are laying groundwork to pursue the death penalty if the case proceeds to trial.
At present, the suspect remains at large; no confirmed arrest has been made.
