A 64-year-old woman from Minnesota, Ava Leone Kock, is accused of carrying out a shooting against her neighbor after claiming she heard disturbing noises and believed her neighbors were committing heinous crimes in their basement. Deputies responded late one evening in Elba, Minnesota, where they found a 34-year-old woman wounded in her Jeep, with bullet fragments lodged in her eye and brain—fortunately, the injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Investigators discovered seven bullet holes in the vehicle, matching holes in Kock’s bathroom window screen, suggesting the shots were fired from her apartment. The day after the incident, Kock reached out to authorities, expressing concerns about supposed homicides in the area and even said she had tried contacting the FBI.

During questioning, Kock allegedly admitted she believed her neighbors were murdering and raping people and that she heard them digging graves in their basement. She claimed the justice system had failed to intervene, so she felt compelled to act. Believing she had no other recourse, she grabbed her son’s .22-caliber rifle and waited in her bathroom. As the neighbor’s Jeep arrived, Kock said a prayer—asking for her bullets to be guided like David’s stone did—and fired seven rounds, citing the Biblical significance of the number seven.

Following the shooting, Kock said she felt “at peace” and indifferent to the victim’s condition. She then hid the rifle behind her stove and placed the shell casings in a houseplant. Police later recovered a Ruger 10/22 rifle, a gun case, ammunition, and seven spent cartridges matching the crime scene.

Previously, Kock had visited a nearby business, claiming her neighbors were “very loud” and implying she might need to “take out” the witness. She was arrested and is now held at the Winona County Jail on a $500,000 bond. A judge has ordered a competency evaluation, and her next court appearance is scheduled for Thursday.
