In the early hours of Wednesday, September 24, 2025, a gunman opened fire at the main gate of Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada, near the highly classified Area 51 facility. The suspect, exhibiting erratic behavior, fired multiple rounds at security personnel around 12:30 a.m. Security officers responded by challenging the individual, who then pointed his firearm at them. In self-defense, the officers returned fire, striking the suspect in the leg. He was subsequently transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after a tourniquet was applied at the scene.

Following the incident, Nellis Air Force Base temporarily closed its main gate and visitor control center. To manage traffic flow, an alternative entrance was opened. By mid-morning, the main gate had resumed standard operations.

Area 51, located within the Nevada Test and Training Range, is a secretive facility known for testing classified aircraft and weapons. While its exact activities remain undisclosed, the base has been a subject of public interest and speculation.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police and Nellis Air Force Base officials have assured the public that there is no ongoing threat. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, with authorities working to determine the suspect’s identity and motives.
