Liberal media accused of covering up Ukrainian girl's brutal murder in Dem-led city as video explodes online

A surveillance video that has since gone viral shows a chilling and fatal attack aboard a Charlotte light rail train. The victim, 23-year-old Iryna Zarutska, had recently fled the war in Ukraine and was working at a pizzeria when, seated and distracted by her phone, she was ambushed. The attacker, Decarlos Brown Jr., a 34-year-old homeless man with a history of mental illness and numerous criminal arrests, withdrew a folding knife, stood over Zarutska, and stabbed her multiple times—including once in the neck—just minutes after boarding the train. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Brown calmly exited the train at the next station and was later arrested, charged with first-degree murder, and held without bond.

Zarutska’s story—seeking safety in the U.S. only to fall victim to such random violence—struck a chord with many. Community outcry grew not only over the brutality of the attack but also over how it sheds light on gaps in mental health interventions and public safety systems.

Surveillance footage captured the stark, horrifying sequence:

• Brown sat behind her for several minutes before he stood, drew a knife, and attacked.

• After the stabbing, he walked through the carriage, discarded his sweatshirt, and passengers only became aware as blood spattered the floor.

• Police responded swiftly and apprehended him at the next stop.

Brown’s background includes a troubled criminal record: charged in previous cases for robbery, assault, misuse of emergency services, and making insular claims about “man-made material” controlling his body. A judge denied him bond partly due to this extensive history.

Following the incident, Charlotte’s transit authority has promised upgrades—tripling safety budgets, enhancing surveillance systems, and increasing law enforcement presence aboard trains.

Critics have voiced concern over the lack of coverage by major media outlets—particularly those often associated with liberal perspectives—and many have attributed the silence to potential biases.
