Man gets 10 years for carjacking a Rolls-Royce on the SW Side

A Chicago man who stole a Rolls-Royce while he was still on probation for a weapons offense is headed to prison for a decade — though, with standard credit for good behavior, he is expected to serve roughly half that time. The sentence was handed down Friday, closing a case that began with a brazen luxury carjacking in the Beverly neighborhood last summer.

The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. on June 27, 2024, when a 54-year-old woman was sitting inside her silver 2017 Rolls-Royce Wraith on South Hoyne Avenue. Police said a dark SUV pulled in front of her and blocked her from moving. A man armed with a gun jumped out, forced her from the vehicle, and drove off in the high-end coupe, which commonly sells for well over $160,000 even on the used market.

About two weeks later, a Chicago police license-plate reader flagged the same SUV — itself reported stolen in a separate carjacking earlier that month — near 51st Street. Members of the CPD carjacking task force tailed it until 20-year-old Trevon Robinson got out and walked into a Foot Locker store on South Ashland Avenue. Officers went inside and arrested him without incident.

Investigators later found additional evidence linking Robinson to the crime, including a video on his phone that allegedly showed him trailing the stolen Rolls-Royce on the day of the robbery, as well as a note containing the victim’s home address.

Robinson appeared in court Friday and admitted to aggravated vehicular hijacking with a weapon before Judge Michael Clancy. He received credit for the 493 days he has already spent in Cook County Jail awaiting resolution of the case.

Court records reveal that Robinson had pleaded guilty to a gun charge just months before the carjacking. He was sent to Stateville Correctional Center in early April 2024 but was released immediately due to accumulated time served — a brief stint of freedom that ended abruptly with his arrest in the luxury-car heist case.
