In Tulsa, Oklahoma, a shocking assault unfolded on a public bus Sunday afternoon: police say a man slashed a woman’s throat, sending her to surgery. Thankfully, she is now in stable condition.
Shortly after 1 p.m., law enforcement received calls about a stabbing at the downtown bus station near 300 S. Cheyenne Ave. Witnesses reported the suspect fleeing on foot, and directed officers toward the last known direction of his movement.
Officers on bicycle patrol located Robert J. Rhoades, 42, at 100 S. Denver Ave. He was found with blood on his clothes, and a blood‑stained knife was recovered from his pocket. He was taken into custody without resistance.
According to witnesses, including the bus driver, both Rhoades and the victim—a 43‑year‑old woman—boarded the bus earlier at a Walmart stop on 81st and Lewis. They had no known prior interaction. Rhoades sat immediately behind her. As the bus arrived at the downtown station, Rhoades allegedly turned and attacked her, cutting her throat before exiting.
Tulsa Police say they are awaiting video surveillance from the bus to confirm the details of how the attack transpired.
Rhoades has been booked on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and false impersonation. He also faces a Missouri fugitive warrant.
This disturbing incident adds to a sense of unease, as random knife attacks are relatively rare in Tulsa, making the public particularly concerned about security on public transport.
