On the evening of Saturday, September 20, 2025, a deadly shooting broke out at Sky Meadow Country Club in Nashua, New Hampshire, as a wedding reception was underway. One person was killed and at least two others were wounded by gunfire, while additional guests sustained various non‑gunshot injuries.

The man who died has been identified as Robert Steven DeCesare, age 59. He was eating dinner with family when the shooter opened fire. Authorities say DeCesare was killed while trying to protect his wife and daughter during the chaos.

The suspect is Hunter Nadeau, a 23‑year‑old from Nashua who used to work at the club, though he left about a year ago. He has been arrested and charged with one count of second‑degree murder. Prosecutors indicate additional charges are likely, particularly for the other people wounded.

Witnesses and officials describe the scene as quickly descending into panic. There were reports that the shooter shouted phrases like “Free Palestine” and “the children are safe,” though state investigators say there is currently no evidence this was a hate‑motivated crime and believe the statements may have been intended merely to sow chaos.

Guests in the restaurant and at the wedding rushed to take cover. Some people hid under tables; others fled. One bystander even struck the shooter with a chair, an act credited with possibly preventing further casualties.

Authorities initially believed there might have been two shooters, but after reviewing surveillance video they determined there was only one. They also stressed that there is no ongoing threat to the public.

DeCesare’s mother and family are mourning. He was described as preparing for his daughter’s wedding, which was just weeks away.

Nadeau is expected to be formally arraigned in Nashua’s Ninth Circuit Court. Investigation into his motive continues, and charges beyond the murder count may follow, especially in connection to those injured.
