The media company behind The New York Post, Page Six, and Decider is setting its sights on the West Coast with the launch of a new daily newspaper based in Los Angeles, called The California Post.

Scheduled to debut in 2026, the new publication aims to deliver what the company describes as “fearless, common-sense journalism,” alongside entertainment, celebrity stories, top-tier sports coverage, and the bold, iconic front pages the Postis known for — all tailored from a distinctly Californian perspective.

Veteran News Corp journalist Nick Papps, formerly a Los Angeles-based correspondent for News Corp Australia, will lead the new outlet as editor-in-chief.

The move marks continued expansion for the New York Post Media Group. The company notes that 90% of its digital readership is based outside of New York, with Los Angeles being the second-largest market. Despite challenges across the media industry, The New York Post has reported three straight years of profitability starting in 2022.

News Corp CEO Robert Thomson emphasized that California is in need of a fresh journalistic voice, calling The Post an “antidote” to what he described as tired and biased reporting. “We are at a turning point for both the city and the state,” he said, asserting The Post will fill a void with its sharp, engaging reporting.

Keith Poole, The New York Post‘s editor-in-chief, added that the launch represents the next step in the brand’s national growth. He highlighted California’s role as a leader in entertainment, AI, manufacturing, and sports, and noted that many important stories in the state go untold. The California Post, he said, will bring a direct, common-sense voice to local journalism across both print and digital platforms.
