In Newberg, Oregon on Sunday, July 5, police in the Newberg-Dundee area pursued a suspect driving a stolen Toyota Land Cruiser. The chase ended when the driver, 27-year-old Randy Lee Cooper, crashed into a Buick Regal. Upon inspection, officers discovered that the Buick, driven by 25-year-old Kristin Nicole Begue, had been reported stolen about three weeks earlier.
Cooper, who had fled police in the Land Cruiser, was arrested and charged with the unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, attempting to elude police, third-degree assault, reckless driving, and related offenses. Meanwhile Begue was taken into custody on charges of driving under the influence of intoxicants and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
The incident gained attention both for the unusual coincidence of two stolen vehicles colliding and for the fact that the pursuit exposed a second stolen car that might otherwise have gone unnoticed.
