The UFC’s groundbreaking event at the White House is officially moving forward. UFC President Dana White shared on social media after a successful meeting at the White House on Thursday, announcing that plans for a fight card on next year’s Fourth of July are now in motion.
“We had the meeting at the White House. Could not have gone better. This is going to be awesome. The White House fight is on. I’ll have more details in the next couple weeks, but we got it done today,” White said.
The event is set to be a centerpiece of the Trump administration’s America250 celebration, marking the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. President Donald Trump, who has longstanding ties with White and the UFC, first proposed the idea around this year’s Independence Day. From there, the two sides quickly began working on making it a reality.
Though the specifics are still under wraps, White has suggested that the event will likely take place on the South Lawn of the White House. Trump has mentioned the possibility of seating 20,000 to 25,000 attendees. White also revealed that he is focused on ironing out the logistics of hosting such a massive event, with plans to meet with Trump soon to finalize the details. He noted that the challenge would include managing the logistics of setting up a heavy Octagon—typically weighing around 20,000 pounds—on the White House lawn, something the venue has never handled before.
As for the fighters involved, many have shown interest, particularly in a sport that tends to lean right politically. Big names like Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler have expressed excitement, though Jon Jones also volunteered before White rejected the idea, citing concerns about the fighter being too much of a risk.
This event would make history as the first-ever professional sporting event hosted at the White House, though the grounds have hosted numerous recreational events in the past. It would also signify how far mixed martial arts (MMA) has come since its earlier days when it was banned in over 30 states. The UFC’s journey to this moment owes much to Trump, who played a key role in the sport’s survival by hosting UFC events at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City in the early years. Trump and White developed a close friendship over the years, with White introducing Trump at the 2024 Republican National Convention and regularly attending UFC events. Now, it looks like Trump will be hosting White for the fight card at the White House.
