Trump appears to forget that Jan 6 happened on his watch as he blames Biden in late-night screed: ‘What a SCAM!’

Donald Trump on Saturday evening repeated a long‑debunked conspiracy, accusing President Joe Biden of deploying FBI agents into the January 6 crowd—something that could not have happened because Trump was still in office at the time. He claimed, in all‑caps on Truth Social, that “the Biden FBI placed 274 agents into the crowd” and demanded action: “What a SCAM – DO SOMETHING!!!”

The allegations echo a pattern among some Republicans of blaming the Biden administration for events that occurred in 2020 and early 2021—forgetting that it was Trump who held the presidency then. In fact, “the Biden FBI” did not exist on January 6, 2021, or in the weeks leading up to it; it was only formed after Biden’s inauguration on January 20.

On that day, the FBI reported to Trump, as did the D.C. National Guard, and Trump was among the slowest to respond to the unfolding crisis—reporting suggests he watched events on television even after Secret Service told him not to attend in person. By the time he issued a public statement urging calm, several hours had passed since the violence began.

Trump’s supporters have long floated the idea that federal agents provoked the mob—a theory repeatedly investigated and dismissed. Bipartisan congressional investigators and FBI officials have found no evidence that undercover agents were instigating violence that day, and even Trump’s current FBI director, Kash Patel, has declined to endorse Trump’s more extreme claims.

Patel later clarified that the 274 agents cited by Trump were deployed after the riot was declared, supposedly for crowd-control—not as instigators. He condemned those leadership decisions as misconduct, but his explanation did not satisfy Trump, who insists he wants to know “who each and every one of these so‑called ‘Agents’ are, and what they were up to” that “Historic Day.”

In the wake of the riot, Trump commuted sentences for hundreds of participants and has since painted his political opponents as criminals. The Justice Department has acknowledged that some FBI informants were in Washington on January 6, but not that agents were inserted into the mob to stir up trouble.

Meanwhile, Trump has also called for aggressive action against members of Congress connected to the January 6 investigation and has directed his DOJ to pursue legal cases against political adversaries like New York Attorney General Letitia James.
