President Donald Trump has ordered federal law enforcement agents to patrol the streets of Washington, D.C. for the next seven days in response to rising violent crime, according to The Hill.

The federal initiative will be led by the U.S. Park Police and will include personnel from multiple agencies such as the FBI, DEA, ATF, ICE, and other federal divisions. Officers will operate in clearly marked vehicles and uniforms, making their presence highly visible across the capital.

This deployment follows a March executive order that created the “Making D.C. Safe and Beautiful Task Force”, aimed at boosting federal involvement in law enforcement within the city. The task force’s responsibilities include enforcing immigration laws, redirecting resources to detain and deport undocumented migrants, and ensuring compliance with federal immigration policies in D.C., which currently holds sanctuary city status.

The latest action comes after a recent violent attack on a former staff member of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which prompted renewed concerns over public safety in the city.

“Washington, D.C. is a remarkable place, but it has been plagued by violent crime for far too long,” said White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt. “President Trump has ordered a stronger federal law enforcement presence to protect innocent citizens. Starting tonight, there will be no safe haven for violent offenders in the capital.”

“President Trump is determined to make our nation’s capital safer for its residents, lawmakers, and the countless visitors who come from around the world,” she added.
