Trump replaces Biden’s portrait with a picture of auto-pen

President Donald Trump has made a symbolic redesign of the White House’s presentation — and used it to again take a dig at his predecessor, Joe Biden.

This week, a new “Presidential Walk of Fame” was unveiled along the West Wing Colonnade. The installation displays gold‑framed portraits of every U.S. president in order — except that Biden’s picture is conspicuously absent. In its place is a photograph of an autopen device signing his name.

Trump has long criticized Biden’s use of the autopen, a mechanical tool that replicates signatures, especially when leaders cannot physically sign documents themselves. While its use is not uncommon in government practice, Trump has repeatedly suggested that reliance on it during Biden’s presidency is evidence that he was disengaged or lacked capacity.

Biden’s team responded forcefully. He issued a statement declaring unequivocally that he made the executive decisions during his administration — on pardons, legislation, and proclamations — and dismissed any suggestion otherwise as “ridiculous and false.”

Trump had foreshadowed this move earlier, telling an interviewer, “It’s a decision I have to make. We put up a picture of the autopen.”

The new gallery is part of a broader aesthetic overhaul of the White House under Trump. He has already added ornate gold accents, replaced parts of the Rose Garden with paved patios (dubbed the “Rose Garden Club”), and initiated construction on a grand new ballroom.

This is not Trump’s first attempt to erase or reassign visual symbols tied to political opponents. In June, his team removed Hillary Clinton’s portrait and replaced it with one of Trump himself. And in August, portraits of Presidents Obama and the two Bushes were relocated to less prominent positions within the White House.
