Across Israel and Gaza, people took to the streets late into the night, cheering and chanting Donald Trump’s name after he announced a breakthrough peace agreement that would bring hostages home. In Israel, celebrations erupted in “Hostages Square” in Tel Aviv, where families waved American flags, danced, and urged that Trump be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Some even carved “Nobel 4 Trump” into fields. In Gaza, amid hope and relief, crowds also shouted his name.
Trump declared that Israel and Hamas had approved the first phase of a historically significant accord: a ceasefire coupled with the reciprocal release of hostages and prisoners. He hailed the development as “unprecedented,” promising on Truth Social that “ALL of the hostages will be released very soon.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the deal as a “critical turning point,” crediting Trump as “our great friend and ally” for helping bring about the release of the remaining 48 hostages, some 20 of whom are believed to still be alive.
In the United States, calls for Trump to receive the Nobel Peace Prize gained momentum. His son, Eric Trump, joined top MAGA influencers and Trump-aligned officials. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick called the award “undoubtedly” deserved, and commentator Steve Bannon said it would be a “joke” if Trump didn’t win. Senate hopeful Nate Morris went further, suggesting the prize be renamed in Trump’s honor.
The Nobel Committee is due to announce its laureate this week, adding further drama to the moment.
