1 May: In My Tummy?
I pray that . . . he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. Ephesians 3:16–17

It’s funny how the simple, unfiltered logic of a child can hit us harder than a complex sermon. I remember tucking my daughter in years ago and trying to explain one of the most profound mysteries of faith: that God, through the Son and the Spirit, actually lives within us.
When I told her Jesus was in her, she looked up and asked, “He’s in my tummy?” I had to chuckle and clarify, “Well, you didn’t swallow Him! But yes, He is right there with you.”
That literal “tummy” comment stuck with me. It forced me to really sit with the reality that when I accepted Jesus as my Savior, He didn’t just become a distant guide—He took up permanent residence in my life.
The apostle Paul spoke directly to this beautiful mystery. He prayed for the believers in Ephesus, asking that the Holy Spirit would give them strength so that: “…Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith.” (Ephesians 3:17)
Paul knew that once we grasp the fact that Jesus lives inside us, we start to understand the sheer scale of His love. That internal presence is the fuel for our growth. It’s what allows us to:
- Mature in our daily walk.
- Treat others with genuine humility and gentleness (4:2).
- Commit to speaking the truth in love (4:25).
Because Jesus lives within His followers, His love isn’t something we have to go out and find—it never leaves. This love “surpasses knowledge” (3:19), acting like a root system that keeps us steady and helps us realize just how deep His devotion to us really goes.
At the end of the day, a child’s song captures the deepest theology better than any textbook ever could: “Yes, Jesus loves me!”
