Are you fighting battles wearing partial protection? This 3-day Bible plan will challenge you to consider your preparation for the spiritual wars you face daily. Through personal anecdotes and biblical insights, this devotional reveals how partial spiritual protection leaves us vulnerable to life’s challenges and how God’s complete armor is just what we need to fight and win!

Day 1

Scriptures: Ephesians 6:13-14, Isaiah 59:17, 2 Corinthians 10:4

Recently, I found myself in a season that felt like an intense battle. It was as if I was being hit with one thing after another. Feelings of frustration, concern, and defeat often permeated my emotions. If I can be honest, although I was trying my best to maintain peace, however, my responses and temperament revealed the turmoil happening within my soul. Have you been there? Maybe you’re there right now – trying your best to walk with God but feeling overwhelmed by life’s battles.

During this challenging time, I remember asking the Lord, “What is happening with me? Why am I responding with such frustration instead of grace?” His response stopped me in my tracks: “Rachel, you’re walking out the door with partial armor but expecting full armor protection.”

Ouch. Sometimes, the simplest truths hit the hardest, don’t they? You see, I had fallen into a dangerous pattern of picking and choosing which pieces of the armor I would wear, almost like getting dressed in the dark and forgetting essential pieces of clothing.

I knew the armor of God that Paul tells us about in Ephesians 6:10-19 consisted of the helmet of salvation, breastplate of righteousness, belt of truth, shield of faith, shoes of peace, and the sword of the spirit (which is the word of God) but I wasn’t wearing everything ALL THE TIME. That day, the Lord gently reminded me of a powerful truth that has resounded in my soul ever since – partial protection leaves us vulnerable to the enemy.

As I studied deeper, I discovered something that truly transformed my thinking about the armor that God tells us to wear. Isaiah 59:17 tells us, “For He put on righteousness as a breastplate, And a helmet of salvation on His head;” (NKJV) God himself puts on armor as well! If the Creator of the universe models the importance of spiritual armor, how much more should we be intentional about putting on every piece?

Pause and Ponder: Which pieces of God’s armor have you been neglecting lately? What situations in your life might be different if you had been fully equipped?

Day 2

Scriptures: Ephesians 6:12, 2 Corinthians 10:3-5, James 4:7

Did you know that the purpose of the armor of God is for you to carry it with you when you encounter real situations in the world? Here’s why. One day, I was in a meeting where someone said something that felt like a personal attack. You know those moments – when words hit you right in the heart, and your flesh or human nature wants to respond and defend yourself and your position? Rightfully so! However, it was at that moment that the Holy Spirit reminded me of His Words revealed right in Ephesians 6:12, prior to the breakdown of the full armor. It says, “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”

This is one of the hardest principles to remember when we’re in the thick of conflict. When that person is standing right in front of you, saying things that hurt or frustrate you, it feels very much like an intentional attack against you, and the pain is felt within every fiber of your being. But what Paul is telling us is to look beyond the surface and the person. See what is really behind the curtains of the words, actions, and behaviors, and come prepared for the spiritual battle that’s really at hand.

Because we are, in fact, fighting a real enemy when we walk outside those doors as we face life’s uncertainties and challenges, we must be prepared.

I love what Bible teacher and Author Derek Prince said about this: “An evil day comes in the life of every one of us. Whether we stand or not depends on if we’ve got the equipment we need.” Think about that for a moment. The battle isn’t about if it will come – it’s about how prepared we’ll be when it does.

Here’s the truth: your obedience and willingness to honor God attracts opposition. When you’re doing everything right, following God’s call, serving in ministry, taking care of your family – and suddenly face intense spiritual warfare – remember that your obedience has made you a threat to the kingdom of darkness. That’s why proper equipment isn’t optional; it’s essential.

Pause and Ponder: What situations in your life have you been viewing as personal attacks that might actually be spiritual battles? How does this perspective change your response?

Day 3

Scriptures: Ephesians 6:15, Philippians 4:7, Isaiah 26:3, Romans 12:2, Colossians 3:14

As I spent time in my Word and intentionally studied, the Lord revealed to me the specific piece of armor I had been missing – the shoes of peace. Can you imagine trying to walk through your day without shoes? Yet spiritually, that’s exactly what I was doing. I was trying to navigate challenging situations without the very thing designed to protect my steps.

You see, every morning, before we’re even fully awake, the enemy often tries to plant negative thoughts in our minds. “You didn’t do this yesterday.” “You didn’t pay attention to that.” “You didn’t respond right to this person.” Sound familiar? That’s why we need to put on the whole Armor before our feet even hit the ground for the day.

The shoes of peace aren’t just about feeling peaceful – they’re about being prepared to stand firm in God’s peace no matter what comes our way. Think about it: your witness for Christ depends on how you respond to life’s challenges. As my father always told me, “Your reputation goes further than you do.” We’re establishing a reputation for God here on earth, and how we handle adversity speaks volumes about our faith.

Remember, you never know who’s watching your life. That difficult situation at work? Someone’s watching how you handle it. That family conflict? Your children are learning from your response. You are witnessing Jesus to someone every day, no matter the circumstance, and the armor helps us to witness well!

Friend, the armor of God isn’t just something we know, it’s something we wear. It became a necessary part of how we clothed ourselves daily when we came to know Jesus as our Lord and Savior because we became a threat to the enemy. So, how do we clothe ourselves with the armor daily?

  1. Start with Prayer – Ask God each morning to clothe you in the whole Armor daily, even speaking each piece of the armor aloud…
  2. Get in the Word – Read and meditate on Scripture to renew your mind (Romans 12:2). Just like you wouldn’t leave the house without clothes, don’t step into your day without the Word.
  3. Worship and Gratitude – Keep your heart focused on God by worshiping, even if it’s just a song or a moment of thanksgiving.
  4. Guard Your Thoughts – Be intentional about rejecting negative, fearful, or sinful thoughts. Replace them with truth from Scripture.
  5. Live It Out – Show love, kindness, and grace in your interactions. Walking in love (Colossians 3:14) is like putting on spiritual clothing that reflects Christ.
  6. Stay Connected to Community – Surround yourself with others who encourage you in faith. Fellowship helps strengthen your walk.
  7. Check Yourself Throughout the Day – If frustration, anxiety, or temptation creeps in, pause and realign yourself with God’s truth.

Now, are you ready to put on the Whole Armor of God?

Final Prayer: Father, thank You for providing us with Your full armor. Today, we choose to put it on – every piece. Lord, help us walk in Your perfect peace, even in the midst of life’s battles. Guard our hearts, protect our minds, and help us to be a witness that brings glory to Your name. In Jesus’ name, amen.
