The Word For You Today
Day 1
Scriptures: 2 Corinthians 5:17, Hebrews 4:16, John 16:33
Is It God’s Will to Heal Me?
When God first created the world, He pronounced it good. Sin, sorrow, sickness, pain and death were nonexistent. Mankind and God enjoyed perfect fellowship, and the Garden of Eden was a place of joy, purpose, abundance, and peace. When Adam and Eve sinned, everything changed for us. God said, “Cursed is the ground for your sake” (Genesis 3:17). Roses began to grow thorns, fellowship with God was broken, and man, who was born to live forever, began to die. It was tragic, but God had a solution.
He sent His son, Jesus, to live on the earth in human form. God’s own son gave Himself to be the sacrifice for the sins of all mankind, and through His sacrifice, anyone who repents of sin and believes in Him can be restored back to God. But there’s more than just being able to be in fellowship with our heavenly Father. When Jesus defeated Satan on the cross, He bought back everything God intended for us from the beginning.
In spite of your failures, you can now come into God’s presence, knowing your sins are covered by the blood of Jesus, and confidently ask for whatever you need. There’s healing in the Word of God. You’ll still have to deal with things like disease, lack, and fear. The difference is, the unbeliever faces the storm without Christ, but as a believer you go through the storm confident that all will be well because Jesus is on board.
Day 2
Scriptures: James 5:15, Matthew 6:31-33, Mark 11:24
How Can I Receive My Healing?
When we hear what God’s Word says about healing, our faith is built up and we can receive it from His hand. God has promised to provide for His people’s needs. He gives us two conditions: first, we are to put the things of God in first position in our hearts; second, we are to live righteously. He’s not saying that we must do these things perfectly—He knows that we can’t. But He expects us to give top priority to these in our daily lives. It’s when these conditions are met that God’s promise is activated. When you or a loved one is sick, pray in faith, believing, and look for faith partners who will pray with you.
Only God knows why some are healed while others aren’t. When we don’t receive what we ask for, we need to be certain there isn’t a seed of lingering doubt in our heart. If it’s there, it must be rooted out. Your physical body thrives in relationship to how well you’re doing spiritually.
When you’re down, or depressed, there’s no incentive for your natural mind to praise God. But God is looking for us to do just that! It’s a choice. David said, ‘I will bless the Lord at all times” (Psalm 34:1). When you’re at your lowest point, that’s when you need to raise your voice in praise. Nothing demonstrates trust like thanking God when you’re in the throes of crisis. A thankful heart builds your faith.
Day 3
Scriptures: Ephesians 4:23-24, Hebrews 4:15-16
Complete Healing—Spirit, Soul, and Body
We are three-part beings—spirit, soul, and body. When we make Jesus Lord of our lives, our spirit receives healing from spiritual death. But there are still two areas of our makeup that need Christ’s healing touch—our souls (mind, emotions, and will) and our physical bodies.
The health of our souls is directly tied to our physical health. For any area where our soul is sick, the Word of God is the answer to nourishing our minds into a balanced and healthy state. Thoughts of fear can be replaced with thoughts of faith. Thoughts of lack can be replaced with thoughts of provision. Thoughts of failure and depression can be replaced with thoughts of success and joy. When fear and negative thoughts rise in your mind, recognize that they aren’t from God, and, by faith, choose to replace them with the positive, precious promises of God’s Word.
Many times, it’s not what happened to us, but how we respond that matters. Jesus doesn’t want us to go through life carrying old wounds; He wants to heal us. The Spirit of God is always with you and will never leave you. You can draw from His strength through every painful circumstance and find your healing.
Whether one needs healing for emotional hurts, shame, condemnation, anxiety, depression, or a relationship, God asks us to take on a Biblical perspective. Instead of meditating on our problems, we need to meditate on how faithful and loving our God really is. When we keep our mind on our problems, we create anxiety and stress. But when we keep our minds on the promises of God, we create a lifestyle of peace.
Day 4
Scriptures: Luke 10:33-34, James 1:17, Ezekiel 47:12, Jeremiah 8:22, 1 Timothy 5:23
The Role of Medicine
Some people sincerely believe that by taking medicine and accepting treatment from a doctor they are somehow failing to exercise faith in God’s Word, and thereby displeasing Him. Not so. The Bible says, ‘Whatever is good…is a gift coming down to us from God our Father” (James 1:17). Healing, in whatever form, is good and comes to us from God.
Throughout the Old and New Testaments, we see proof of this principle. God gave Ezekiel a vision of a life-giving river, on the banks of which were trees and “the leaves for healing” (Ezekiel 47:12). Jeremiah lamented over the spiritual condition of God’s people, saying, “Is there no medicine in Gilead? Is there no physician there? Why is there no healing for the wounds of my people?” (Jeremiah 8:22). Luke, one of Christ’s disciples, was a doctor. Paul told Timothy, “Use a little wine for your stomach’s sake and your frequent infirmities” (1 Timothy 5:23).
One modern-day pastor, who had Stage 4 cancer, struggled with accepting chemotherapy treatment. He explains, “I thought that by refusing treatment I was standing in faith. But it turned out that for me, it was pride…many people of God have gone home to glory while refusing medical treatment, thinking they were standing in faith. They missed God’s healing for them because they wouldn’t humble themselves to receive on another level.”
If you are struggling with the decision over when to receive medical treatment, and when to stand only on God’s Word, prayerfully consider stepping out in faith, and doing BOTH!
Day 5
Scriptures: Proverbs 4:23, 2 Corinthians 10:5, 1 Thessalonians 5:18
What to Do While You’re Waiting for Your Healing
Healing can take place in different ways. Sometimes God performs a miracle and instantly heals someone. Other times, He heals them progressively over time. When looking at Scripture and the many miracles Jesus performed, it’s easy to think He always heals people in the same fashion. But on closer examination we see that in many cases He doesn’t do the same thing twice. Regardless of the method, receivers consistently showed belief in His ability to heal and willingness to release His power on their behalf.
The same is true today! If you’ve prayed for healing and nothing happened immediately, that doesn’t mean your faith faltered. It also doesn’t mean that God is angry at you and wants you to suffer. It just means it’s time to thank God that you are taking Him at His Word and getting better one day after another. Remember that, from God’s perspective, you are already healed in Christ!
Just because you haven’t seen instant results doesn’t mean your prayer wasn’t answered. No matter what situation you find yourself in, it’s always a good time to be thankful. You may be in the early stages of the healing process. Don’t fall for Satan’s tricks. He wants you to focus on your symptoms and what appears unchanged, when you could be thanking God for the part of your life that has gotten better. Make wise choices, take care of yourself, and thank God that you are getting better, stronger, and healthier day by day.
Day 6
Scriptures: Ephesians 6:10, Nahum 1:7-9, Hebrews 11:1
Walking by Faith
When you don’t understand what’s happening in your life, start with what you know for sure. Namely, that God is good all the time, and His “love for those who respect him continues forever” (Psalm 103:17). He’s not fickle. His “mercies…are new every morning” (Lamentations 3:22-23). Hope is a powerful force. It’s absolutely essential to the life God wants you to live. It’s the fuel your heart runs on.
What does it mean to walk by faith? It’s not rooted in human effort. It’s rooted in God’s unlimited power and unchanging Word. Walking by faith requires action. The moment you act, your faith springs to life, inviting God to move on your behalf. Today, He’s waiting for you to act, so He can respond to you.
Walking in the unity of the Spirit means you can’t fully enjoy your health while your brother or sister is sick, or fully celebrate your success while they struggle. There’s something about receiving God’s blessing that when fully understood makes you want to say to others, “The God who brought me through, will bring you through too!” And you’ll work and pray toward that end.
One of the greatest things a believer can do is intercede in prayer on behalf of those who need healing. The Bible says that the “heartfelt prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available” (James 5:16). As a believer in Christ, you have the authority to pray, and to lay hands on the sick and see them recover because the Spirit of God lives in you!
Day 7
Scriptures: Matthew 12:15, Isaiah 55:8-9, Romans 8:28
God’s Role, and Our Role
God’s healing power is evident throughout the Bible. It was fully manifested through the ministry of Jesus as He walked among us, and Jesus’ atoning death and resurrection has opened the way of healing to all of us who trust in Him. He has fulfilled His part of the healing process, and continues to act each day in the lives of His children. God’s job is to perform His word in His way, His wisdom, and His timing—for His glory.
Your job is to saturate your mind and heart with the promises found in His Word—to build up your faith by believing and standing on these promises. Go through the Bible and take note of the times God reached down and miraculously healed people—physically, emotionally, or spiritually. Take note of the responses and the faith of those people (or their friends!). How can you apply the lessons you learn in these stories to your own journey of healing?
The truth is, we will never understand God’s ways completely. His ways and thoughts are higher than ours! However, we can confidently stake our claim on the promises found in His Word, knowing that He always tells us the truth about Himself and about us. Today, take heart, wherever you are in your healing journey, by knowing that God loves you and has the best in store for you. He works all things together for His glory and our good! Trust Him today, and know that your healing is coming!
