Day 1

Scriptures: Genesis 4:7, 1 Peter 5:8-9, Galatians 6:2, James 5:16, Psalms 119:9-16

Don’t Fight Alone

Imagine there’s an angry, 500-pound grizzly bear scratching at your front door. How would you respond? Wait, don’t answer just yet—we’ll get there. First, let’s talk about how you’re going to fight porn today.

In a world where porn is readily available, resisting temptation can feel almost impossible. But there’s good news: Our loving, grace-filled God wants to help us find freedom from porn. This Plan is full of practical tips and wisdom from Scripture to help you make a personalized strategy for overcoming porn. Let’s get started!

Early in the Bible, God compares temptation to a wild animal that wants to break into your house. So let’s run with that imagery and get back to the hefty, hungry bear with the big claws and sharp teeth threatening to break into your house … what would you do about it?

Well, we wouldn’t recommend you go outside and challenge it to a one-on-one fistfight. Alone, your odds aren’t ideal. Instead, we’re guessing you’d probably call for help. If we want to fight the temptation to watch porn, our first step is to seek help. And where do we find this help?

First, we pray, calling on God to help us make healthy choices. Then, we seek help from Scripture, trusted friends, and spiritual leaders.

By starting this Bible Plan, you’ve taken a brave next step to find healing. But don’t stop here. Your best next step is to tell someone about your struggle with porn.

Yes, it’s scary and it can be awkward to share your porn struggle with others, but it’s so much more difficult to keep fighting temptation on your own. So don’t listen to the voice of shame telling you to stay silent. Stop fighting the grizzly bear on your own. Continue seeking help and include others in your fight against porn.

Pray: Dear God, thank You for loving me, no matter what. Please help me to find healing and freedom from porn, and give me the courage to share my struggle with others. I know that You’re with me, so I’m never truly alone. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Challenge: Tell someone about your battle with porn today. Tell a trusted friend, pastor, counselor, or family member.

Day 2

Scriptures: Matthew 4:1-11, Hebrews 2:18, 1 Corinthians 6:18, Romans 12:2

What’s Your Why?

Everyone who has ever lived has experienced temptation—even Jesus.

In today’s Scriptures, we’ll see how Jesus responded when He was tempted to sin.

The story picks up right after Jesus’ baptism. In that moment, He had heard God’s voice and seen the Holy Spirit. It was an incredibly powerful spiritual moment. Then, temptation struck.

Temptation doesn’t send warning. It can arrive uninvited at any time, anywhere, even after a major spiritual event when we’re feeling closer to God than ever before.

Since we can face temptation at any moment, we need to be ready for temptation all the time.

Jesus was tempted with an immediate source of food, an immediate way to skip suffering, and immediate power on Earth. Notice the word “immediate.”

Pornography might provide immediate feelings of relief when we’re feeling sad, alone, numb, or some other negative emotion. It can also cause us to feel an immediate imitation of relational connection. But porn can’t provide lasting peace, meaning, or relationship.

Porn can feel good in the moment but then leads to all kinds of long-term negative outcomes, causing us to seek relief again—and the cycle continues. Have you experienced this cycle? If so, you’re not alone. Men and women of all ages, in all different stages of life struggle to break free of porn addiction.

So how do we get out? We look to Jesus. He was ready to defeat temptation. How did He get ready? By knowing His purpose. His purpose was to make others-focused choices to save the world. It’s a meaningful, joy-filled way of life, but it’s also a lifestyle of daily sacrifice—and as Jesus followers we’re called to live the same way.

When we change our focus from attempting to satisfy our immediate wants to the pursuit of Jesus’ others-focused way of living, we find what our hearts are truly after—love, purpose, and belonging.

So when you face temptation, remember your purpose. Don’t let the enemy distract you from your goal. Every time you choose to resist short-term pleasure, you’re one step closer to meaningful relationship and long-term gain.

Pray: Dear God, thank You for meeting my deepest needs. Help me to stop taking shortcuts to immediate pleasure so I can better experience the good things you have for me. And when I face temptation, please help me to remember my purpose. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Challenge: Identify why you seek porn. What do you want it to provide? Relief? Comfort? Connection? Identifying why we seek porn can help us begin to find lasting change.

Day 3

Scriptures: Job 31:1, 1 John 2:16, Philippians 4:8, Proverbs 4:23

Decide to Be Different

Porn is easy to access, feels good in the moment, and is becoming more socially accepted by the day. So why is porn a problem?

Porn devalues people made in God’s image, diminishes our emotional health, and distracts us from God’s calling on our lives.

But knowing the facts doesn’t break the addiction, right? No, we need more than just facts to find freedom. That’s why you’re in the process of making a plan to stop watching porn. Yesterday, we explored why we seek porn. Today we’ll consider how a simple mindset change can help us resist porn.

The first verse you’ll read today is about Job. Job chose to keep his mind pure, refusing to look at young women with lust. Not just when he was alone late at night but every moment of every day. Why? Because Job wanted to live a God-honoring life. He knew his weaknesses, so he decided ahead of time to fight lustful thoughts before they turned into sinful actions.

So can we do the same thing? Of course!

First, we need Job’s mindset. He didn’t just want to run from sin. He pursued God’s way of life.

In the same way, our goal can’t simply be to run away from porn but also to run toward Jesus and the meaningful life He’s prepared for us.

Then, we make a plan based on our weaknesses. If we know we struggle with porn, we need to identify when we’re most likely to face temptation.

Are you tempted late at night? Then commit to going to bed earlier. Are you tempted when you’re around certain friends? Then place boundaries on your relationships. Are you tempted when you scroll through certain social media accounts? Then delete that social media account or find an accountability app.

Whatever you decide likely requires some sacrifice or discomfort. But it’s an investment with a high return. That’s because each step away from sin also leads you into a deeper relationship with Jesus. And as you keep choosing to pursue Jesus, you’ll experience greater connection, purpose, and joy in Him.

So decide to pursue Jesus by identifying a few choices you can make to avoid temptation.

Pray: Dear God, thank You for providing me with wisdom from Scripture to help me fight porn. Help me stand firm in my decision to stop watching porn. And help me identify ways I can avoid temptation. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Challenge: Are there consistent people, places, times of day, or activities that lead you to feel tempted? If so, create boundaries to keep your mind pure.

Day 4

Scriptures: Luke 22:54-62, John 21:15, Galatians 5:13, Ephesians 3:18-19

Seek Progress

Have you ever found success quitting porn, only to fall back into the habit later? It can feel crushing and lead us to quit trying.

But in those moments, we get to experience God’s grace. In our weakness He is strong. Yes, we want to eliminate sin from our lives, and yes, God doesn’t condone sin. But He also doesn’t reject us when we sin. Instead, He continues to seek us, love us, and lead us toward His best for our lives.

Remember, God doesn’t quit on you, so don’t quit on yourself.

In today’s verses, you’ll see how Peter was tempted to reject Jesus, and kept giving in. Peter likely felt tempted to quit following Jesus entirely in his shame, but Jesus pursued Peter and welcomed him back.

They both knew that what Peter did was wrong, but Jesus didn’t let it disqualify Peter from continuing to follow Him and have a life full of meaning and purpose.

Maybe you’ve felt like your sin has disqualified your from your calling, from God’s love, or the potential of a relationally full life. Those feelings are natural—we’ve all had them—but they’re not true. God’s grace is greater than your sin.

When you decide to quit watching porn, you may not have 100% success at first. If you fall short, don’t quit trying. Even if you’re not perfect, you’re still making progress. Keep leaning into God’s grace as you run away from porn and toward Jesus.

We don’t quit porn to earn God’s love. He loves us, even at our worst. We want to quit porn so we can live undistracted as we pursue Jesus’ others-focused way of life today.

As you think about following Jesus today, what are some other “whys” that lead you to want to quit porn? Maybe you want to live with greater integrity, be a better example for your family, or have greater intimacy with your spouse. All of these whys are valid and helpful to write down.

Pray: Dear God, thank You for never giving up on me. Even when I fail, I know You love me. Please help me to give grace to myself in moments of weakness. And help me continue to pursue You every day. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Challenge: What are the reasons that you want to be free from porn? Ask God to remind you of those whenever you feel tempted to watch porn. Consider making a statement that you can repeat when you feel tempted: I’m no longer watching porn because ____________.

Day 5

Scriptures: 1 Corinthians 10:13, Psalms 46:1, James 1:12-13, 1 Corinthians 6:18-20

Look for an Escape

We commit to avoid temptation and do our best to be ready for any temptation we might experience. But temptation can strike in unique and unexpected ways. So what do we do when we find ourselves in a moment of severe temptation, and we’re about to give in? We look for an escape.

Have you ever watched a show or movie where someone is trapped in the pull of a powerful river heading toward a waterfall? Usually, at the last minute, they’re rescued by someone throwing them a rope.

Temptation can be like a raging river. It can feel powerful and irresistible. But God always offers us a rope to rescue us from falling off the cliff.

For you, the rope might look like a moment of clarity before making a poor choice, a visual cue that reminds you to stop, or a timely call or text message from a friend. These divine interruptions are a way God shows how much He loves us.

God gives us free will—the ability to decide for ourselves—so He rarely forces us out of temptation. Instead, we need to be aware of the opportunities God offers us to escape temptation and choose to accept His gift of freedom.

So let’s ask God for greater awareness to see the rescue ropes He’s tossing our way. Then, let’s pray for clarity and self-control to accept His opportunity to avoid sin.

Remember, God won’t allow you to be tempted beyond your capacity to resist. That means that with help from God and others, we can overcome even the strongest temptation.

Pray: Dear God, thank You for always providing a way out. Please help me be aware of the opportunities You offer so I can avoid porn. Thank You for caring for me and leading me toward healing and freedom. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Challenge: The next time you feel tempted, pause. Think about the choice you’re about to make, and ask God for help. You can trust Him to provide you with an escape route. Once He does, don’t hesitate. Exit the situation and keep pursuing Jesus.

Day 6

Scriptures: Hebrews 12:1, Romans 13:12-14, Ephesians 6:10-18, Philippians 3:13-14

Who Will You Become?

Imagine yourself ten years from now. What might your life look like if you never found freedom from porn?

Do you think you’d have stronger relationships with others, greater intimacy with God, and increased peace of mind? If you’re like most people, then probably not.

God equally loves this imaginary version of you. But imaginary you is also likely to be more relationally distant, unsatisfied, and less effective in pursuing Jesus’ others-focused way of life.

But this doesn’t have to be you.

Now imagine yourself in ten years again. What would your life look like if you did find lasting freedom from porn?

Do you think you’d have stronger relationships with others, greater intimacy with God, and increased peace of mind? Probably.

This potential version of you consistently:

  • shared deep struggles with others.
  • refused to allow temporary pleasures to steal lasting joy.
  • created habits to avoid temptation.
  • took God-given escape routes from sin.

This version of you is now chasing Jesus with fewer distractions. Of course, there were likely a few mistakes over the past decade. But after each failure, there was confession of sin to God and others, reaching out for help, and continued pursuit of healing.

Both of these versions of you are possible. Only you can decide which will be true for you, one day at a time—and one moment at a time. So imagine who you want to become, then start taking steps toward freedom from porn.

It won’t be easy, but it’s always worth it. Keep seeking Jesus every day, and don’t fight porn alone.

Pray: Dear God, thank You for loving me and leading me toward healing and freedom. I know I have a long way to go, but I also know that You’re with me every step of the way. Please help me consistently seek You and seek help from others as I pursue purity. In Jesus’ name, amen.
