Pride goes before the fall. We’ve all heard this saying before. Whether you’ve fallen already, you recognize that you’re about to fall, or you want to make sure that you don’t fall as a result of the sin that is called pride; this short 3-day plan is for you! So what’re you waiting for? Start this short plan, today!
American Revival Ministries (ARM)
Day 1
Scriptures: Proverbs 16:18, James 4:3-7, Luke 10:18
Day One
Pride goes before the fall. It’s exactly what happened to the devil.
Whether you knew this or not, the devil was actually once an angel. One moment, he was in the constant presence of perfection, and the next thing you know, he’s cast down from Heaven like lightning (see Luke 10:18). So, what happened? Pride.
The devil clearly thought he was better than God until he was slapped in the face with reality. He was standing tall, but he would soon fall. All of this reveals to us that pride originates from the innermost parts of the devil. It’s what empowered him, and yet, it’s what will have him burning in a lake of fire being tortured day and night for all eternity.
In fact, at one point the devil actually thought he could be like God (see Isaiah 14:14). To this day, though the story has already been written and we know the eternal doom that awaits the devil, my assumption (based off of his pridefully foolish nature) is that he must still think there’s a chance he can overtake God. In that case, he thinks wrong! I long for the day when the devil is reminded of those prideful thoughts, as he experiences eternal torture and everlasting suffering. With that being said, let’s call pride for what it really is: demonic.
Day 2
Scriptures: Proverbs 16:18, James 4:6-11, Matthew 23:12, Matthew 23:26
Day Two
When you’ve received deliverance in an area, it’s easy to fall into the trap of being blinded by pride, to the point that you look at someone who is in the same position as you were a few days ago and wonder why they don’t “know better.” Stop right there before God allows you to be humbled, to teach you to not think that way.
Let this plan be your reminder that God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble (see James 4:6). Let this be your reminder of the words of Jesus when He said that those who exalt themselves will be humbled; whereas, those who humble themselves will be exalted (see Matthew 23:12). Also, receive the reality that it’s not all about an outside appearance—what’s inside matters most (see Matthew 23:26).
Day 3
Scriptures: Proverbs 16:18, James 4:11-17
Day Three
God sees what’s really in your heart and what you’re thinking, even when you don’t speak those thoughts out loud. Don’t think you can trick God by trying to appear humble on the outside so that you can be exalted. He sees what you’re doing, and if that is you, you will be humbled. Let your continuous prayer be: “Lord don’t let me be exalted in any way if my heart isn’t humble.”
I’d rather be humble and lowly than prideful and exalted—I hope that you can say the same. “Therefore let the one who thinks he stands watch out that he does not fall” (1 Corinthians 10:12).
Stop thinking about yourself all of the time. Stop thinking about what you would’ve done in comparison to how someone else did their job. Stop being so impressed with yourself. Everything you’ve ever had—any skill, any favor, any success, any good thing—is a result of God and not you. That’s just the truth. We’re privileged that we even get to be a part of God’s plan. We’re chosen instruments for the Kingdom of God. We are chosen—not self-made, not self-righteous—but chosen, qualified by the blood of Jesus Christ, not by our own doing.
With that being said, let’s all, myself included, get off of our high horses and stop acting like we’re better than anyone else, more spiritually impressive than anyone else, and realize that we are absolutely nothing without Jesus Christ.
To think anything else shows that there is a fall coming for you in the near future. Unless, that is, you decide to humble yourself now, repent, and turn from your wicked pride.
