Day 1
Scriptures: John 19:25-30, Matthew 28:1-10
As you read this plan, allow yourself to step into Mary’s sandals, to feel the weight of her sorrow and the depth of her grief.
Close your eyes and envision the scene. Picture the blood-stained hands of Jesus, the agony etched on His face. In this moment, Mary’s heart surely felt like it was being pierced by a thousand swords. How would you have felt standing there, helpless, watching your child endure such unimaginable pain?
As you read the verses, let the emotions wash over you. Feel the sorrow, the anguish, and the heart-wrenching love that Mary experienced. Imagine the echoes of her silent prayers, the questions in her heart, and the ache that must have gripped her very soul.
In these moments of reflection, consider your own moments of grief and loss. How does Mary’s sorrow resonate with your own experiences? Take this time to connect with the universal thread of human suffering and the solace that can be found in knowing that Mary, too, faced profound sorrow.
As we journey through Mary’s emotions today, may you find a deeper understanding of the complexities of grief and the strength that comes from faith in the face of profound loss. Open your heart to the transformative power of empathy and compassion, allowing Mary’s sorrow to illuminate the path toward the glory that awaits in the days to come.
Once you’ve opened your eyes, take a listen to part one of the spoken word titled ‘Mary’s Sorrow.’
Day 2
Scripture: John 20:1-18
On the day of the Resurrection, Jesus first appears to Mary Magdalene. In fact, we see no account that Mary (the Mother of Jesus) saw Jesus after his resurrection. However, the Gospels only lists a few instances of the Risen Jesus and does not necessarily mean that she did not see her son. Many believe that Mary was not mentioned within the group of women that visited the tomb because Jesus had visited her first, however, this is only speculative and will never know until we ask Mary in heaven! Overall in the Gospels, we hear very little about Mary, despite how significant her role was in the upbringing of Jesus.
If she did see her son, I wonder how she would’ve felt? What was her first reaction or feeling? We may have to use some creative license, but just for a moment, imagine yourself, once again, in Mary’s sandals, grappling with the emotions that journeyed through her heart at the sight of the empty tomb.
Close your eyes and envision the stone rolled away, the morning light spilling into the darkness of the burial chamber. Picture Mary’s face, a mix of bewilderment, fear, and perhaps a glimmer of anticipation.
What thoughts raced through Mary’s mind as she discovered the absence of Jesus’ body? Did a spark of hope ignite, or was she consumed by a new wave of grief? Consider the confusion that may have clouded her thoughts and the questions that undoubtedly swirled in her heart.
Now, connect this moment to your own experiences of confusion and uncertainty. How does Mary’s journey from sorrow to an empty tomb resonate with the moments in your life when unexpected twists left you searching for answers?
As you contemplate the emptiness of the tomb, remember that this emptiness is not a void but a canvas awaiting the masterpiece of resurrection.
Once you’ve opened your eyes, take a listen to part two of the spoken word titled ‘Tomb’s Embrace.’
Day 3
Scriptures: Matthew 28:18-20, Isaiah 40:31
Once more, imagine Mary standing in the presence of the risen Christ, who is also her son. Imagine the mix of emotions—joy, awe, and perhaps lingering questions about the future. As you read the verses, feel the weight of Mary’s experiences, and recognize the profound act of waiting that led her from grief to witnessing the glory of Christ’s victory.
Now, consider the waiting seasons in your own life. Reflect on the moments when patience was a challenge and trust in God’s timing felt like a leap of faith. How did Mary’s patient anticipation shape her understanding of God’s promises, and how might her example encourage you in your own periods of waiting?
In the grand tapestry of faith, Mary’s waiting was not in vain. Her trust in the Lord paved the way for the Great Commission, as Jesus entrusted her with a mission that transcended her initial grief. How might Mary’s journey of waiting inspire you to embrace your own waiting seasons as opportunities for growth, preparation, and divine revelation?
As we conclude this Bible plan, let Mary’s story echo in your heart, encouraging you to wait on the Lord with steadfast faith. Embrace the assurance that, just as Mary witnessed the fulfilment of God’s promises, your patient trust in Him will lead to moments of profound glory and purpose.
Once you’ve opened your eyes, take a listen to part three of the spoken word titled ‘The Wait.’
