29 Apr: The Gift of Delegation
If you follow this advice, and if God commands you to do so, then you will be able to endure the pressures, and all these people will go home in peace. Exodus 18:23
Scripture Reading: Exodus 18:13–23
Joe poured himself into his work, often pushing past twelve-hour days without stopping. Building a charity took so much out of him that by the time he got home, there was almost nothing left for his family. Eventually, the constant pressure caught up with him and landed him in the hospital. A friend stepped in and offered to gather a team to support him. Letting go of control wasn’t easy, but Joe knew he couldn’t keep going like this. He chose to trust his friend—and God—and began sharing the responsibility with others they selected together. Looking back a year later, he realized both the charity and his family only flourished because he accepted the help God had provided.
God never intended for us to carry everything on our own. In Exodus 18, Moses was trying to lead, teach, counsel, and judge for the Israelites all by himself. When his father-in-law Jethro visited, he told him plainly, “You’re going to wear yourself out—and the people, too… This job is too heavy a burden for you to handle all by yourself” (Exodus 18:18). Jethro urged him to share the responsibility with capable, trustworthy people. Moses listened, and the entire community was strengthened because of it.
When we trust that God works through others as well as through us, we stop striving alone and start finding real rest together.

Reflect & Pray
How can you trust God by asking for help or offering help to someone in leadership this week? How has He provided you the support of trustworthy people?
Father God, thank You for never asking me to handle life without Your help or the support of others.
