28 Apr: Resting in His Delight

Let my soul be at rest again, for the Lord has been good to me. Psalm 116:7

Scripture Reading: Psalm 116:1–7

“Daddy, will you read to me?” my daughter asked. It’s a simple request, one most parents hear at some point—but she’s eleven now, and moments like this don’t come as often as they used to. I smiled and said yes, and she snuggled in beside me on the couch.

As I read aloud from The Fellowship of the Ring, she leaned into me completely, relaxed and content. It was one of those rare, beautiful parenting moments that hint at something deeper—the kind of love God has for us. A love that invites us to draw close, to rest in Him, to feel safe and held.

It struck me then how similar I am to her. I spend so much of my time trying to stand on my own, to be self-sufficient. And yet, it’s easy to drift from the awareness of God’s love—a love described in Psalm 116 as gracious, righteous, and full of compassion (verse 5). It’s a love that welcomes me to come close, to settle into His presence like a child who knows they belong.

That same psalm gently calls us back when we forget: Let my soul be at rest again, for the Lord has been good to me” (Psalm 116:7). And when I really stop and think about it, I know it’s true—He has been good to me.

Reflect & Pray

When was the last time you rested quietly in God’s love? What barriers, if any, might keep you from experiencing the Father’s delight for you?

Father, thank You for Your perfect love for me. Help me to remember that love and to rest in Your goodness and delight in me.
