By the end of this three-day journey through Benaiah’s story, we are reminded of the importance of courage, loyalty, integrity, and faithfulness. May his example inspire us to live as warriors of faith, knowing that God fights for us and honours those who serve Him.

Day 1
Benaiah’s Courage in the Face of Danger
2 Samuel 23:20 “Benaiah…a valiant fighter from Kabzeel, performed great exploits. He struck down Moab’s two mightiest warriors. He also went down into a pit on a snowy day and killed a lion.”
Reflection:
On the first day of our study, we focus on Benaiah’s remarkable courage. He was known for his boldness in confronting seemingly insurmountable odds. His most famous act was killing a lion in a pit on a snowy day—an environment where the terrain and weather were against him. Yet, despite these obstacles, Benaiah overcame the danger head-on.
Courage is not the absence of fear but taking action despite fear. Like Benaiah, we all face our own “lions.” These lions might represent personal struggles, fears, or even overwhelming challenges. The critical thing to remember is that God equips us to face these battles. It might be a challenge we’re not prepared for, or the circumstances may seem unfair, but when God calls us to face something, He will provide the strength and victory we need.
Application:
What “lion” are you facing in your life? Is there a challenge that seems too big to handle? Like Benaiah, trust that God will give you the courage to face it. Step into the battle knowing God is with you, regardless of how overwhelming the challenge seems.
Prayer:
Lord, help me to trust You in the battles I face. Give me the courage of Benaiah to confront my challenges and trust in Your strength to overcome them. Amen.
Day 2
Benaiah’s Loyalty and Integrity
2 Samuel 23:23 “He was held in greater honor than any of the Thirty, but he was not included among the Three. And David put him in charge of his bodyguard.”
Reflection:
On the second day, we examine Benaiah’s loyalty and integrity. Though he was not part of David’s most elite group, “The Three,” he was considered one of the most honoured and respected of David’s warriors. His loyalty earned him a position as the commander of David’s bodyguard.
Loyalty and integrity are two qualities that can set us apart in the eyes of both God and people. In a world where taking shortcuts, compromising values, and seeking personal gain are common, Benaiah stood out for his faithfulness and integrity. He wasn’t focused on seeking his own glory; instead, he remained loyal to King David, which can be seen as a reflection of our loyalty to God.
Application:
Where do you need to practice more loyalty or integrity in your life? Whether it’s in relationships, work, or your faith, let Benaiah’s example challenge you to serve faithfully and with a heart of integrity. When we commit ourselves to be faithful to God, He honours that commitment.
Prayer:
Lord, help me to live with integrity in every area of my life. May my loyalty to You be evident in my actions, words, and decisions. Keep me grounded in Your truth, even when faced with temptations. Amen.
Day 3
Day 3: Benaiah’s Rise to Authority Through Faithfulness
1 Chronicles 11:24-25 “Such were the exploits of Benaiah son of Jehoiada; he too was as famous as the three mighty warriors. He was held in greater honor than any of the Thirty, but he was not included among the Three, and David put him in charge of his bodyguard.”
Reflection:
On the final day, we reflect on Benaiah’s rise to authority. His journey was one of gradual, steady faithfulness. Benaiah’s acts of bravery and loyalty were recognized over time, and eventually, he became the leader of David’s personal bodyguard. Later, under Solomon’s reign, he was elevated to the position of commander of the army.
Benaiah’s life shows us that God often elevates those faithful in small things. His journey was not a rapid rise to power but one marked by consistent faithfulness, courage, and integrity. Just as Benaiah’s faithfulness in smaller tasks led to greater responsibilities, God often prepared us through our more minor battles before giving us more significant assignments.
Application:
Are you in a season where you feel like your efforts go unnoticed? Be encouraged by Benaiah’s story—God sees your faithfulness and prepares you for more incredible things. Stay faithful where you are, and trust that God will promote you in His perfect timing.
Prayer:
Lord, I trust You with the process of my life. Help me remain faithful in the small things, knowing that You see my efforts and will elevate me in Your time. Give me patience and a heart committed to serving You in all circumstances. Amen.
