18 Aug: Your Story in His Hands
Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts. Psalm 139:23

As I drove home after having lunch with my best friend, I found myself thanking God for her. She knows me well and still chooses to love me, even with the parts of myself I struggle to accept. She’s among the few people who welcome me as I am, including my quirks, habits, and mistakes.
Even so, there are parts of my life I hesitate to share, even with the people closest to me. These are the moments when I didn’t make the right choice—when I was critical, harsh, or failed to show love.
God, however, already knows every part of my story. I don’t have to hide anything from Him. I can speak honestly with Him about the things I may not feel ready to tell anyone else.
The familiar words of Psalm 139 remind us how closely our Sovereign King knows us. He has searched us and knows us completely (verse 1). He is “acquainted with all [our] ways” (verse 3). We can bring Him our confusion, anxious thoughts, temptations, and struggles without pretending to be better than we are.
As we surrender every part of our lives to Him, He helps us turn away from the paths that have drawn us from His presence. He restores what has been damaged and begins reshaping the painful parts of our story.
God knows us more deeply than anyone ever could, yet He still loves us. As we surrender to Him each day and grow in our knowledge of Him, He continues changing our story for His glory. Our lives are still being written, and He is the faithful Author.
