7 Oct: Blips That Matter
Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days. Psalm 90:14
Today’s Scripture: Psalm 90:1–2, 10–17
For several months, I’ve been exchanging letters with a young man who’s been wrestling with questions of faith. In one note, he wrote, “We’re just tiny blips on the vast timeline of history. Do we even matter?”
Moses, Israel’s great prophet, once voiced a similar thought: “Our days may come to seventy years, or eighty, if our strength endures; yet the best of them are but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away” (Psalm 90:10). Life feels short, fleeting—and that can make us wonder whether our time here has any real significance.
But we do matter. We matter because the God who created the universe knows and loves us deeply and eternally. Moses prayed, “Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love” (verse 14). Our worth isn’t found in what we achieve, but in the unshakable truth that we are loved by God Himself.
And that love doesn’t stop with us. Though our days are brief, our lives gain meaning when we reflect God’s love to others—when we offer kindness, mercy, and hope in His name. We weren’t placed on earth simply to make a living, but to make God known through the way we love.
Finally, our fleeting lives are not the end of the story. Because Jesus rose from the dead, we too are destined for eternity. One day, as Moses envisioned, we will wake to the radiant “morning” of God’s presence, forever satisfied in His love.
In light of that promise, even the smallest life is infinitely significant—because we are loved now and forever by the One who made us.
